Meet Prince! A 4 month old Lab! He’s here for his board and train program, and we’re so excited to help him grow! 🐶 We are building solid obedience and strengthening his socialization skills. Atlas graduated from his private freedom program!! 🎓🥳😊🎉

When Atlas first came to us, he could do many tricks and had a solid foundation of basic obedience but he was reactive on his walks, dealing with separation anxiety, and barking at the windows. Now, he can calmly walk past other dogs, be left alone for a while, and can be called away from the windows! Great job Atlas! See you at support class!

What a cool duo! Colbe and Ashley graduated our foundation program! These two are going to do great things. Colbe is an easily distracted classic German Shepherd with some reactivity likely due to under-socialization. But Ashley has a passion for dog training that will send them to the stars!! Look out world!

When Susie first started with us, she was reacting at people and other dogs. Her mom put in a ton of hard work and effort into training Susie. ATTENTION CURRENT AND GRADUATED DOG WIZARD CLIENTS🎉🐾🎊‼️:

The Dog Wizard invites you and your puppy to join us for our upcoming Puppy Social on December 7th, 2024, from 3:00 to 3:30/4:00 PM.

What is Puppy Social?
Puppy Social is a structured group play session for dogs who are under the age of 1 who have graduated from one of our programs or have completed at least the first two sessions of their program. It is designed to help your puppy learn how to interact with other dogs in a positive and safe environment and to teach you what safe play looks like and the warning signs when you should move your dog away from another dog. The session lasts between 30 minutes and an hour and focuses on building essential social skills.

Why is Proper Socialization Important?
Socialization is key to ensuring your puppy grows into a well-adjusted adult dog. During Puppy Social, your pup will learn to communicate and interact appropriately with others, setting them up for success with dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds. By teaching good manners early, we can prevent bad habits from developing later on such as disrespecting another dog's communication cue that could lead to the interaction escalating or dog aggression stemming from fear.

What Are the Benefits of Puppy Social?
- Physical & Mental Stimulation: 30+ minutes of play helps burn off excess energy, leaving your pup tired and satisfied.
- Respecting Play Styles: Your puppy will learn to respect different play styles, promoting positive interactions.
- Communication Skills: Your pup will practice using instinctual communication signs, improving their social skills and building their confidence around other dogs.
- Fun for All: Playtime is an enjoyable way for puppies to build confidence and friendships!

How to RSVP:
To reserve your spot, simply text your trainer, mark “Going” on the Facebook event, or respond to the email.

Cost: The fee for Puppy Social is $10. If you are coming let us know if you want to pay cash or we can charge the credit card you have on file with us.

Roman graduated from his private foundation program!! 🐾🎉🥳🎓

When Roman first started with us, he was pulling on the leash and reacting at dogs making it next to impossible to take him out in public. Now, he is able to join his family on their morning walk to get coffee, sit calmly next to the table, and is not reacting on his walks!

Penny is back for day 2 of her 15 day train program! Today she is working on her self soothing techniques.

In these photos, it may not look like she is doing a whole lot but that’s the point! Teaching your dog how to do nothing is extremely important for their well being and mental state.

In the first photo, you can tell that Penny is on high alert, she is panting, her ears are back, and she was whining when this photo was taken. In the second photo, you can see Penny become slightly more relaxed. Ears are now in their normal position, mouth closed a little bit more, and posture has shifted slightly. In the third photo, you can start to see Penny’s body fall into a more comfortable position. In the fourth photo you can see her starting to fall asleep, and in the 5th and 6th photos, you can see Penny reaching total relaxation.

Why is this important? Penny is learning how to self soothe during this exercise. She used coping mechanisms to find calm from within herself to process her emotions and relax. She went from being on high alert to fully relaxed without any assistance. This is a big step to creating an emotionally balanced dog.

Over the course of his program, he learned new commands and was able to reach off leash reliability. He now has the freedom to be off leash on their property and his family can call him back when needed. This gave them all freedom! Great job Ash! See you at support class!

Penny is working on cooperative nail care! Working on creating a positive association with people touching her feet and the nail clippers touching her nails will improve her mental state during nail trims. In this video we started off learning a “flop” command where she rolls on her side (a position she chooses to be in frequently) and began touching her feet. When she began to pull away, I did not release her paw until she stopped. Then we gradually worked our way up to the nail clippers touching her nails and then to actually clipping the nail. Only clipping one nail is still a successful nail trim if she is able to remain calm. Doing this frequently and making small amounts of progress each session is the key to successful nail trims! #thedogwizardchantilly #dogtraining #NorthernVirginia #obedience #dogmanners #doglover #DogConfidence #dognails #dognailclipping
