In the Veterinary field we have our superstitions! Here are a couple fun ones in honor of Friday the 13th.
1.) NEVER say the "Q" (Quiet) 😨 or "S" (Slow)🤦‍♀️ words on days going smoothly.
2.) If a vein is thick and looks like an easy stick for blood draws or catheters, NEVER say that before the stick, always acknowledge it afterwards!
3.) White pets always bleed more. Sigh...because blood is hard to clean off an adorable white coat!
4.) If we have a couple crazy days of patients all acting up...it must be a Full Moon! 🌕

Yet one superstition we never believe in...We LOVE our black cats, they can cross our paths everyday!

Pretty satisfying dental from yesterday. Dr. Ward and Elise, had the pleasure of doing a dental on this little man and happily the tartar and build up came off so nicely! He had been getting our non-anesthetic dental cleanings and decided it was a good year to do an anesthetic cleaning. Yearly to every other year cleanings, for most pets, is always a good idea so we can have dental x-rays taken. This makes sure the teeth are healthy from root to crown! 😁🐾

"Dr.Tohill is the best! He has been taking care of my animals for 30 years cats, dogs, and my even my mouse (I think I remember him saying that my mouse was his first rodent client and everything went so well)!

I love that when something is wrong he will give his recommendation but still explain all the options, so many Drs don't give you that respect. He cares about you and your pets, he is very thorough and really listens. I moved to Florida so no longer bring my pets here (unless I'm visiting) but veterinarian shopping in FL has made me appreciate Dr.T even more (other vets have dismissed valid concerns or gone the opposite and I spent $1,000 when my dog had the sniffles). Dr.T is very helpful about explaining options that are best for the pet, options that might help peace of mind but are likely not needed, etc. (I'm overly anxious about my pets when something is off). I highly recommend him!

🥵🔥 Ya'll it's Hot! 🔥🥵
Here are a couple facts to keep your pet safe this summer!
🔥 A dog's normal temperature is between 99.5-102.5 - They naturally run warm! So it doesn't take much for their body to overheat.
🔥 Dog's don't sweat, they pant, it works well for limited heat or exercise, but overall it's truly not an efficient way of cooling off.
🔥 To reduce the chance of heat stroke, it's best to walk your pet in the early morning hours, or evening when the sun is setting or going down. Severely limiting mid afternoon walks to short potty breaks.
🔥 Make sure your pet had constant access to cool water and shade if they will be outside.
🔥 If you're ever concerned your dog may be over heating call us at CAH and we can walk you through some steps to help. If a crisis is occurring the Emergency vet is the best place.
🔥 Signs of over heating/heat stroke: Excessive panting, drooling, bright red patches or gum color, restless/pacing leading to lethargy, collapse, and/or seizures.

As you're sitting at kids sports games, scrolling in bed before starting the day or avoiding house chores...we thought you'd enjoy some fun facts about cats whiskers! This is Georgie and her whiskers are spectacular!

😻Cat have whiskers on many places on their bodies, including their forelegs. This is for hunting purposes and prey movements. They also have symmetrical amounts on their muzzle, 24 in total, 12 on each side.
😻 Whiskers are often the size of their bodies, so that's why cat stick their heads in first, if the whiskers fit, they can! (And why tubby cats THINK they can fit...but get stuck!)
😻 Cats actually don't have the best vision up close, so they rely on their whiskers to be another set of eyes. Also during the night, while their night vision is way better than a humans, whiskers help them navigate.
😻Never ever trim their whiskers!! They rely heavily on them for various things, trimming can result in disorientation and fear.

The neuter for Milo! We start with an I.V. catheter, which helps us give medicine and fluids. After Milo is comfortable and sleeping, he's hooked up to monitors to help track his: Heart rate and rhythm Oxygen levels CO2 levels Blood pressure Dr. ToHill neutered him while an assistant monitored the patient!
