Did someone call the Tooth Fairy? Pet Dental Health Month is here! This month we encourage all pet owners to take the time to educate themselves on how to be proactive about their pets’ oral health. An unhealthy mouth can lead to a multitude of other health issues in your pets, but knowing which warning signs to look for can save them from any unnecessary discomfort. Regular preventative care, such as tooth brushing and dental exams, are an excellent way to show your pets just how much you love them! And if your pets are suffering from oral health issues, speak to your veterinarian so they may intervene. Here's the answer to our challenge: Meet Teddy, the Norwegian Elkhound! 🇳🇴 🫎 The national dog of Norway, they have been prized members of any pack for thousands of years. These sturdy dogs were made to brave the harsh conditions of the Scandinavian weather and terrain, as evidenced by their lush coat and strong, square build.
Norwegian Elkhounds get their English name through a mistranslation of their Norwegian name, elghund - elg (meaning moose) and hund (meaning dog.) These dogs famously face off against massive game such as moose, elk, and bears, helping to hold them while the hunters wait for an opportunity to shoot. Not only do they aid in hunting, but they also serve well as guardians, herders, and protectors. It's no wonder these versatile pups have been treasured over so many generations!
These viking dogs are loyal, intelligent, and make great family and sports companions. Who wouldn't love to spend the day playing and cuddling with this handsome, silver-haired fella?

Here's the answer to our latest challenge: Meet Annie, the adorable Chinese Crested!
While the exact origins of this spectacular breed aren't fully known, Chinese Cresteds have been mentioned in historical documents dating back as far back as the 1500s. They are believed to have evolved from an African or Mexican hairless breed, which were then bred smaller by the Chinese to fit on cargo ships and rid them of vermin.
Chinese Cresteds come in two varieties: hairless and powderpuff. Hairless dogs have the signature crested mane, tufted 'socks', and a plume of hair on the tail. Powderpuffs are fully coated in a rich, double coat. These slim, agile dogs make for lively, spunky companions. Their sweet, playful nature are a great company to keep around the home; and their fine-boned, elegant bodies do phenomenally in many dog sports! Why do you love the breed?

Even in seemingly mild conditions, parked vehicles quickly become uncomfortable or overwhelming within minutes. This is our reminder to you all that pets should NEVER be left alone in a parked car, especially in extreme conditions. Help us spread awareness to keep pets from experiencing heat stroke this summer!

With the weather outside quickly warming up, many families are taking their dogs out to enjoy the sunshine ☀️ While we humans have the luxury of shoes, our dogs aren't so lucky. Every year, dogs are taken to the vet for burnt paw pads- something that can easily be avoided. By simply placing your palms down on the asphalt, you can test the temperature of the ground your pup will be walking on before you set out on your adventure. Avoiding long walks during peak temperatures and allowing your dog to have breaks in the shade will do wonders for them during the warm season!

Here's the answer to our latest challenge: Meet Nova the Alaskan Klee Kai! These striking dogs were developed in Alaska in the 1970s using Alaskan Huskies, American Eskimos, and a small amount of Siberian Husky and Schipperkes. Klee Kais are known for their bright, curious nature and thrive as family pets. They tend to be wary of strangers, but don't let this fool you- these dogs are highly intelligent and trainable.
