Please help us welcome Acorn and Snow to the rescue. π
We wanted to share their story as it's just a tiny glimpse of what our rescue does on a daily basis.
Acorn and Snow were in a neighboring county shelter on a final hold. Which means they were scheduled to die.
That is so hard to hear, but this is the reality of the pet overpopulation crisis in North Carolina.
Acorn is in need of a minor eyelid procedure and Snow was absolutely terrified in a shelter setting after being surrendered by the only person she has ever known. When cats shut down in shelters, they have a really hard time showing their personalities and getting adopted. These kinds of cases are a burden to our overwhelmed shelters and so they are the first to go. This is not the fault of the shelters, there are just too many animals because of lack of affordable spay and neuter services, and a lack of animal welfare laws/enforcement in this state, and a myriad of other reasons.
That is where we come in. The mission of Cat Tales Rescue NC is to prevent the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable cats. A huge portion of the cats we've taken in to rescue have been pulled on their final hold date, literally saving their lives in their final hours.
Our rescue receives dozens of requests daily from people trying to rehome their cats. We don't take cats from individuals, only shelters and rescues, and cats like Acorn and Snow are the reasons why.
We like to keep things super pawsitive here at the cafe social media page, but it's also important for us to help educate the cat lovers of our coMEWnity. North Carolina is number 3 in the nation for dog and cat euthanasia year after year. A fact that many do not realize.
Acorn and Snow have won the lottery. They are safe, and will be smothered with love with one of our amazing fosters until they are ready to find their forever families. (Not available yet!)
They are safe because we have an incredible network of fosters, vets, and donors. So THANK YOU to all who have contributed. These are just two of the faces who are grateful. π
Thank you!
