Week twelve of our new series continues today with Uga 1. You can't talk about the state of Georgia without talking about bulldogs, especially, all the Uga's. There have been eleven Uga's so far, all decedents of Uga 1. There is a mausoleum inside the football stadium with memorials to past Ugas. Fans are encouraged to leave flowers and gifts for these memorable mascots.

Samoyeds make a gentle yet bold companion. They are playful and clever, sociable with strangers, children, dogs and other pets. Sami's are fast learners, but can be independent and stubborn. Week 11 of our new series continues today with the state of Florida. During WWII, Florida, along with the rest of the country, was struggling. With the stress of the times, a bright star emerged in the form of a little fox terrier named Pinky. Pinky helped sell war bonds and brighten the spirits of the people of Orlando. Unfortunately, Pinky died on June 21, 1944 and therefore didn't get to celebrate the end of the war that she so tirelessly performed for.

With Halloween just around the corner it's important to know what to do in case your pet eats chocolate. First, contact your veterinarian or Pet Poison Helpline at 1-800-213-6680 to see if a poisonous amount of chocolate has been ingested. If a toxic amount was ingested, immediate evaluation by a veterinarian will be recommended. The sooner treatment begins, the better your dog's prognosis and the less costly the treatment.

Saint Bernards make a loyal and protective companion. They are gentle and generally good with children, but may be overly protective of them when around strangers. These big dogs may also may not be playful enough for children. As with all large dogs, dogs and children should always be supervised. These giants tend to be somewhat aloof toward strangers but fairly friendly toward strange dogs. They are good with other pets, learn quickly, but can be stubborn.

Week ten of our new series continues today with The District of Columbia and the Big Brown Bat! "Big" is kind of a misnomer because these little guys only weigh about .95 ounces. White-nose syndrome (WNS) is a fungal disease in North American bats which has resulted in the dramatic decrease of the bat population in the United States and Canada, reportedly killing millions as of 2018. The condition is named for a distinctive fungal growth around the muzzles and on the wings of hibernating bats.

The Rottie learns quickly but can be stubborn. They tend to rebel against forceful methods.
Rotties do best with a firm owner who can combine reward-based training with good control and leadership.

Week nine of our new series continues today with the Blue Hen from Delaware! Along with schools and universities having the Blue Hen as a mascot, the Blue Hen is also the emblem of the 166th Airlift Wing and the 142nd Airlift Squadron, both of which are stationed in Delaware.
