Week three of our series continues today with American Samoa. One of the main issues facing the critically endangered toothed billed pigeon is that dogs are allowed to roam free in many parts of American Samoa, only being trapped if showing signs of aggression. While we normally think of cats catching and eating birds, dogs can also partake in the hunt. Passing regulations to keep dogs licensed, up to date on shots, and leashed would not only serve to keep the dogs population under control and safe, but would have the added benefit of helping to conserve this rare bird.

Papillons make a loving and entertaining companion. They are extremely good with children; however, children must be careful around such a small dog. Papi's are very affectionate and make a good lapdog as well as fun playmate. While they can be sensitive and can be timid, they are eager to please and quick to learn. In February 1924, six months later, Bobbie returned home mangy, dirty, and scrawny, with his toenails worn down to nothing. He showed all the signs of having walked the entire distance, including swimming rivers and crossing the continental divide during the coldest part of winter.
Bobbie was born in 1921 and died in 1927 at just six years old. No word on if the long journey contributed to his short life but what a life it was. The level of loyalty showed by Bobbie in his determination to return to his family was then, as is now, incredibly remarkable.
Week two of our series, continues today with Alaska and the sweet story of Patsy Ann. A wonderful side effect of getting Patsy Ann her own collar, tag, and license is that it helped publicize the efforts by the local government to get all dogs licensed and nearly tripled the applications by residents over the previous year.

At the ceremony to dedicate the statue to Tombili, hundreds of people showed up to pay their respects to the cat. About a month later someone stole the statue inciting outrage in and around Turkey. The Prime Minister of Turkey was quoted as saying, "They stole the Tombili statue. They are enemies of everything beautiful. All they know is hate, tears and war...." Two days later the statue was returned; proving once again, never mess with cat people.
Today we are starting a new series that we're calling in which we will be highlighting famous animals or animal stories from all states and territories of the United States.
Up first, is the State of Alabama and the story of Troop and the C**n Dog Cemetary, the only one in the world. Troop and his owner, Mr. Underwood hunted together for 15 years before Troop died. C**n dog owners from all over Alabama travel to Tuscumbia County to bury their precious pups in the unique graveyard.
Some clients choose to have the microchip implanted when their dog is spayed or neutered so the dog can be anesthetized for the injection, but, this is not necessary; the microchip can be implanted any time that is convenient. Cat bites can be dangerous both to other animals and to humans. All cats carry bacteria in their mouths that can cause tissue infections in bite wounds. One of the more common bacteria is the highly pathogenic Pasteurella multocida. An infected cat bite wound will be red, swollen, and painful. If you're biten by a cat, even if it seems superficial, you should see a doctor right away.

With heat waves sweeping across the country, blue-green algae is appearing in new areas and posing an increased risk to pets.
Found in lakes, ponds or any source of standing water, it’s extremely toxic and consuming it can be fatal. The best way to prevent accidental poisoning is to keep a close eye on pets when they’re around water.
If you think your pet has been exposed, take them to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital and contact the ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435.
If the pavement is too hot for you, it's too hot for them. Make sure to be aware of the dangers hot pavement can have on your pet's paws.
