Overnight temperatures are expected to dip below freezing again, creating the potential for ice on roads in the morning.

OPERATION WINTER STORM SLEEPOVER IS IN FULL EFFECT! After sending out a plea to our amazing volunteers and fosters, we successfully placed 30 dogs in homes for "sleepovers" while we are closed during the approaching winter storm. You heard that right - 30 DOGS! Check out this video of our empty kennels and our dogs leaving for a fun weekend with kind people.
We are truly blessed to have the best friends a shelter could ever ask for. Such amazing support! These dogs get to be spoiled and loved in homes where they can get a break from kennel life. Don't worry, our remaining pets at the shelter will also get some extra TLC.
We cannot thank these foster homes enough! Also thanks to our staff that worked so hard this morning to make this happen. And of course we are grateful to all staff braving the weather to provide essential services.
Life is good. LIFE IS GOOD BECAUSE OF GOOD PEOPLE! πŸ₯°

Today's moment of zen is brought to you by Karma and her monkey toy on a rope. πŸ₯° Karma is often a little vocal and bouncy in her kennel. Not today! Today she was full of chill vibes as she enjoyed her toy. She wagged her adorable little nub and all I got were her relaxed glances...if she could talk she would have totally been doing a Matthew McConaughey "alright alright alright." 😁
She needs a loving home if you're interested in adopting a new family member. Check out her official listing for more info: https://24petconnect.com/ORNCAdopt/Details/ORNC/A243254

Reminder: We're closing early at 3pm today (1/10/25) due to the severe weather headed our way. We're also closed tomorrow (1/11/25). Stay safe out there! May everyone be as chillaxed as Karma in this video.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR MEDICAL CARE.
Chappo, Pablo, and Princess were in pretty rough shape when they arrived at our shelter. They all required special, urgent medical treatments, and some treatments were off-site at an emergency clinic. After special emergency care, fluids, many medications, and tons of TLC, they are all doing well and they are now available for adoption. In spite of going through such a tough time, they are happy, positive, beautiful dogs. We were able to help them because of generous donations.
In these kinds of urgent situations, it is YOUR help that allows us to transfer animals into emergency care. It's very expensive. Just one visit to the ER can cost thousands of dollars when 24-hour, emergency care is needed, and costs are rising every day. Our shelter takes in roughly 3000 animals per year, so these kinds of emergency situations are unfortunately common.
If you are able to donate to help shelter animals in need of special medical care, please consider making a donation to our Community Giving Fund (Medical Care Fund) button/link near top of this page: https://www.orangecountync.gov/364/Donations
You can also donate to our GoFundMe campaign to help shelter animals: https://gofund.me/59e5c9b1
Thanks to everyone out there supporting our shelter pets!

Meet Toby, another gorgeous gray muzzle at our shelter. He needs a loving home.
Toby arrived as a stray so his history is mostly a mystery. He has been shy and cautious but he is starting to warm up to all the kind people trying to help him. Today, he came right up to the front of his kennel to take a cookie from me - and I got a little tail wag. πŸ₯°πŸ₯Ή We want this dapper gentleman to get into a real home where he can relax and show his true personality. He'll need comfy beds, tasty foods, and more kind, patient people to keep telling him how handsome and wonderful he is. πŸ₯° We open at noon if you'd like to stop by, adopt him, and turn this rainy day into the best day ever. Added bonus - his adoption fee has been sponsored!

HAPPY ADOPTION UPDATE!
"I adopted Percy on December 11th and she settled in immediately! She loves snuggling and is a very energetic little lady. We have dinner together every night and she loves her tuna and Churu. Looking outside and watching baking shows with me are her favorite activities! I’m so glad she chose me as her person and I’m incredibly lucky to have her in my life!"

"ADOPTION UPDATE! My husband and I had Koda over for a sleepover during the Thanksgiving holiday and it was love at first sight. She fit right in with us and warmed up to us real quick that we couldn't see ourselves without her in our lives. So, we decided to adopt her on December 2nd. She has been a treasure and is truly our little Christmas miracle. We are so excited to continue on this journey through life with our baby girl. We love you, Koda. Welcome to the family!"

Miller is about 10 years old, and he was very frightened and a little underweight when he first arrived at the shelter. But it was clear that he was a sweet little senior guy that just needed TLC and time. These days - he's doing so well as he waits for his forever home. He's had some trouble adjusting to men, but he's making great progress with that as well! Someone captured this video of Miller happily accepting treats from a kind gentleman, and this is not the only time (recently) that Miller has decided that interacting with a man is OK. To all the volunteers and staff members that convince the kind men in their lives to pop by and patiently show Miller that any kind of human can be cool (especially with treats) - we thank you! To Miller - keep being a good boy...we know your forever family is out there waiting to find you and spoil you. πŸ₯°πŸ˜
