New CDC regulations have been implemented for all animals re-entering the US from a Rabies Free or Low- Risk Country. These regulations are in effect as of August 1, 2024.

Here is what you need to know about travel to and from Canada:

1. All pets traveling to Canada need a current and signed Rabies Certificate.
a. An International Health Certificate is not required to enter Canada.
b. If you are leaving Canada to travel to another country with your pet, please contact us to set up a consultation. International Regulations differ from country to country. Additional documentation may be required to enter that country and to then re-enter the United States.
2. To re-enter the United States from Canada, pets must be microchipped and at least 6 months of age.
3. Rabies vaccination status must be current upon re-entry and cannot expire while they are out of the country.
4. A CDC Import Form must be completed prior to re-entry into the United States for EACH PET. This free form is to be completed and submitted online by the pet owner.
a. The form can be completed at time of travel or before, if needed. Once completed, it is good for multiple re-entries into the US for up to six months (as long as the Rabies vaccine is current).
b. The receipt must be presented at the border and can be printed or shown on your phone.

Below is a link to all the current information. You will also find a link to the CDC Import Form with instructions on how to complete.

If you have any questions, please contact us and we will do our best to guide you through the process. Please note that this may require scheduling a consultation appointment to assure accuracy and allow for the doctor’s time to assist.

**** UPDATE - Her owners were found and she has gone home! ****

Today a Good Samaritan dropped off this young little kitten. We suspect she may have been hit by a car and we are treating her injuries. In the meantime, we are reaching out on social media to see if anyone out there is missing this sweet girl or knows of a family looking for her. Please reach out to us at the Animal Clinic of Chardon if you have any information on her home.

Our Story

Drs. Tom and Wendy Frankmann built the Animal Clinic of Chardon (ACOC) around a strong belief in personalized and attentive patient care and client service. After purchasing the practice from Dr. Ron Swartz in September of 2001, many changes were made to update the practice thereby improving patient care and client service. This included creating a mission statement and strong core values, adding practice management software, expanding and educating the team to include credentialed vet nurses and customer service representatives, and developing medical standards of care that the entire team follows. In 2008, Dr. Jessica DeMarco joined the practice as an associate DVM. Soon afterward, it became increasingly challenging to practice modern medicine and grow in a small, aging medical facility….. Wendy and Tom drew upon many professionals in the veterinary field to create a state of the art medical facility to meet the needs of clients and pets as well as offer an even wider array of services to the community....These dreams became a reality when the new ACOC facility opened its doors on August 13, 2012. Since this time, our team has grown in size , we’ve added services (including boarding), created and developed a strong leadership team, and even re-visited our core values and standards of care. Dr. Carolyn Askew joined the practice in June 2016 as our 2nd associate DVM. Though we continue to grow, our core focus remains the same: to make a difference in the lives of pets and the people who love them. At the Animal Clinic of Chardon, we take the time to know you and your beloved pet. We invite you to come see for yourself!
