Regionals Recognition!
Last Saturday the Mon Valley team headed to the Grier School for Regionals. We had a fantastic time full of great rides on amazing horses in some really competitive classes. Ansley is moving onto Zones in JV Beginner WT! Our high school team isn’t moving on, but I was thrilled to see all of our team members giving each ride their all.

Full results are below, but the biggest reward to me as a coach was the amazing sportsmanship on display in class after class. Thank you riders for making me proud. I can’t wait to see how you kill it next season!

Meet your Regional Qualifiers!

This Saturday, February 24, the Mon Valley team is heading to Zone 11, Region 1 Finals at the Grier School in Tyrone, PA.

IEA offers riders two different opportunities to ride during postseason. Individuals can qualify by earning 18 points in their designated rider class (Open, Intermediate, Novice, Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter, Beginner Walk/Trot). Each ribbon they earn carries a certain number of points, ranging from 7 to 1 and riders are only allowed to compete in 5 shows for the regular season. This makes for stiff competition in the fall and brings the best of the best to Regionals.

At regular season shows, the team gets to earn points too. Before competition begins, coaches select riders from their team whose points will count towards the team’s daily total. Based on these totals, teams can earn a 1st - 6th placing for the day. The points from that ranking go towards an overall season total and teams that earn at least 20 points qualify for Regionals.

This season, our Individual Qualifiers are Emily (Open Fences), Elihu (Open Fences and Open Flat), Davie (Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter), Ansley (Beginner Walk/Trot), Harper (Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter), and Paije (Intermediate Flat).

Our high school team is also qualified and will be represented by Emily (Open Fences), Elihu (Open Flat), Paije (Intermediate Fences and Flat), Aria (Novice Fences and Flat), and Annalise (Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter).

These riders have worked hard during practices and are ready to bring their ‘A’ game this weekend. I’m lucky to coach such a great group of riders! Here’s to awesome draws on Saturday and even more awesome riding!

Horse Show Recap: Despite the weather, we had a great home show yesterday. Both high school and middle school teams finished as Reserve High point team, Julianna earned High School High Point Rider, Emily earned High School Reserve High Point Rider, and Frankie earned Middle School Reserve High Point Rider and the Sportsmanship Award.

Thank you to everyone who gave up their weekend to make this show such a success. We couldn’t do it without you.

And thank you to everyone who let us use their wonderful horses yesterday. The horses were fantastic and many of the riders from the other teams, as well as the judge, couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved them.

Thank you Gary and Linda for taking pictures throughout the day and hanging around afterwards to do pictures after the show. The kids certainly had fun posing for them.

And finally, a big thank you to our fundraiser-in-chief Gianna. Our concession stand and mums sale raised over $3,100!

Now onto the Ridge Riders Show next weekend!

Horse Show Recap:
We had a great day at the Pony Palooza show on Sunday. Not only was it a beautiful day (no rain, no dust, minimal humidity!), we also had a ton of great rides.

Nicole and Baloo made a clean sweep in the Open Hunters to earn Champion. They also finished in the top 3 in all of their Intermediate hunter classes to earn another Champion in that division too.

Haley and Irish continued their winning ways to make a clean sweep in their jumper classes.

Annette and Welcome earned great ribbons in the Low Intermediate hunters, including a win in the under saddle!

Jamie and Sparrow got some great experience in the Puddle Jumpers. This pair continues to improve with every outing!

Lily and Marquee finished with a clean sweep and Champion in a big Beginner Hunter division and great ribbons in Long Stirrup. Marquee started out a little overzealous in the Long Stirrup and Lily did a great job getting him back on task!

Annalise and Oliver finished with top ribbons and some great learning ride in Long Stirrup Hunter.

Vivian and True earned great ribbons in a huge Canter Crossrails division and dealt particularly well with the excitement occurring in the big ring during their classes.

Millie and Mocha also earned top ribbons in the huge Canter Crossrails division. She especially showed off some serious skills in her flat classes.

Emma and Joker continued their winning streak to earn top ribbons in Canter Crossrails and finish as Reserve Champion!

Frankie and Heidi topped out several of their large Extremely Green Rider classes and earned Reserve Champion! This pair continues to improve with every outing.

Hannah and Joker are gearing up for the Endless Summer show next week and won some great ribbons in Extremely Green Rider. These two got better with every class!

Joy and Mocha made their debut in Extremely Green Rider and put in some great rides.

Nice job everyone! We have horse shows the next two weekends and I’m excited to see everyone continue to progress!

On Friday, Fallowfield lost its last original equine resident: Classy. Classy Lady, aka Teacher’s Pet, was the best lesson pony, and taught countless young riders to feel safe in the saddle. She was very much the queen of Fallowfield until the very end and loved pushing everyone around (humans, other horses, the cow, etc) to do her bidding. From dealing with her allergies (she was allergic to hay, flies and fly spray) to hoisting her out of a giant mud puddle when she decided to take a nap in it and almost drowned, Classy always kept us on our toes. I’ve also never met a more reliable mount. She was the only horse I felt like I could safely turn my back on with a child onboard. She loved to horse show and was equally competitive over crossrails and doing fun show games. Now she’s free to run again with her long-passed boyfriend Poppy and terrorize all of the other Fallowfield residents who passed before her. If you have any other pictures/comments feel free to post them below.

Baloo is back in action! After breaking his pastern this Spring (and making his way through surgery and stall rest), his most recent X-rays showed the fracture was healed and OSU gave him the go ahead to begin tack walks and small paddock turnout. As you can see, in spite of being in a stall for months, he’s still his same old laid back ‘Beluga’ self (also, his belly is making him a little extra whale-like right now). Nicole has done an amazing job keeping Baloo happy through this ordeal. We think they’re both happy to be getting back to work!
