The PAWS Humane Society (Floyd County Humane Society) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that works closely with the Charles City Police Department. We strive to encourage humane care and treatment for the animals we shelter and see that their interests and well-being are humanely protected by an aware and caring society. All the animals in our shelter are stray with a story we may never know. Some

of them unwanted and have been abandoned, while still perfect in all the important ways. Many have been cast aside by their owners. Some owners didn’t have enough time. Some dogs were surrendered because they barked too much, others because they didn’t bark enough. We don’t always know the reason why these animals are brought to us and never claimed, but we’re here to show them that they’re worth saving. The one thing all these animals have in common is that each is hoping for you to bring them home and give them a loving new family. We hope you will help us help them.

Thanks to grant funding by the Floyd County Community Foundation and Charles City Community Fund, we are offering another Cat Neuter Clinic with Avenue of the Saints Animal Hospital - Charles City! 🙌

You will need to call Ave of Saints Vet (641.228.2211) and make your appointment as this is on a first come first serve basis.

PAYMENT IS REQUIRED WHEN MAKING THE APPOINTMENT! You will be required to pay the $30 upfront. 💜

PAWS is open today 1-3pm!

Many of you have been warmly greeted by our 3 brother kittens: Tim (black), Donald & JD (orange tabbies). Sister, Usha, is also an orange tabby.
These 4 are not your stereotypical aloof, moody felines. They 100% LOVE ❤️ everyone-babies, toddlers, kids & adults. They are almost desperate for attention. They just want to be held and snuggled.

They came in young with untreated eye infections and herpes virus. We have tried different meds & are treating the eyes again with drops recommended by an ophthalmologist. Most likely they will never have completely normal eyes but if their stress is kept low and watery discharge is wiped it is very manageable.
Each of these cats' adoption fees are sponsored!

These cats are now 5-6 mo old & really craving more attention than we can give them. Hoping people can look past their imperfections & give them loving homes.

Sweet Kaylee had her 9th birthday in October & asked for donations to PAWS instead of gifts. We love meeting kids with compassionate hearts for animals.

Kaylee's family adopted a dog Dawson 10 years ago from PAWS who passed away recently. This was a wonderful way to honor Dawson. ❤️ thank you!

Good news! Our dark orangie boy Pumpkin Pie is feeling much better! He was not very peppy the past week and was his appetite was low. We didn't know what was wrong but he was just not a typical playful kitten.

Thankfully Dr. Mack with Avenue of the Saints Animal Hospital - Charles City examined him and bloodwork showed he was anemic and fighting an infection. She discovered he has a broken kitten canine tooth so was started on an antibiotic. The meds are working! 😊 Pumpkin Pie is now eating like a champ & energetic.

Gave him some play time with our other orange cats tonight! This cutie boy is 11 weeks old & after finishing his meds will be ready for a home! Hoping he can be with another cat since he's been a solo kitten.

Meet Spice & Cider!
This sister/brother pair are timid but are soooo cute & roly-poly. They came in several weeks ago and were hissy and scared. Cider the black male with a splash of white is now more trusting but Spice the tabby girl is still on the spicy side. They just need to be cuddled & loved.

They are now 8 weeks old & ready to be adopted. They are very bonded so we are hoping they can stay together. Adoption fee is $100 for the pair, includes spay/neuter & all vaccinations. If interested please complete our online adoption application at: pawscharlescity.com. Please share!!

It's raining cats (not dogs!) at PAWS today! We are open to the public today from 1-3pm! Cats already spayed/neutered reduced to $50- includes all vet care! Four cats are sponsored!

Blaze (1st pic) came back from Petco Friday. He was too stressed-he really hates being in a cage. So he's out playing and his tail that was injured is 99% healed. He so needs a home!!

These 4 "presidential candidate" littermates are ready to greet you! They are 100% social & lovable!! Amazing 5 mo old kittens! They each have some eye scaring from eye infections before coming in. We know this makes them look not perfect but trust me they make up for it in personality!

A kind CC supporter donated funds to sponsor dogs but because we have no dogs we are applying it to these 4. So if approved to adopt, their adoption fee is covered! 😊

PAWS has been focusing on sharing our cute kittens but we also have some new amazing adult cats ready for homes. PAWS is extending our reduced cat adoption fee on already spayed/neutered cats to just $50.

These 3 feline ladies are all spayed, healthy & ready to snuggle on a warm lap as the weather gets chilly.

Meet Demi who's a 1 year old black tabby with a cute white triangle patch on her nose. She would fit in with young kids & other pets easily.

Blair is a blend of gray tabby & dilute calico. She is 1 year old and loves attention.

Sallie Mae is approx. 2 years old and a pretty dilute calico. She was in rough shape when she 1st came in but is so much better now. She would do best in a quieter home.

Stop in this weekend Saturday 11am-2pm or Sunday 1-3pm to meet their girls!

Poptart has had a rocky life. Bounced around as a young puppy until coming to PAWS in February with her sister. The sisters were placed in a home together and were doing great then sadly the owner no longer could handle them so they came back this summer. That was so sad. Strudel sister was quickly adopted but Poptart has waited all summer with no solid apps.

Then a kind-hearted man came in wanting to volunteer or foster. Poptart was our only dog and they immediately clicked. He took Poptart home to foster and quickly decided she was perfect. He has finalized her adoption and her new name is Luna! We are SO happy she has found her person & can relax.

Happy National Kitten Day!! 😻 Come meet Melania and her 6 kittens at the PAWS Kitten Shower Wednesday night! 🐾💜

Exactly 2 weeks ago PAWS had every kennel full & a dog in a foster home. Today we are down to 1 dog-Pop Tart! Woohoo! We are working on a foster to adopt home for her. Thank you to ALL our supporters who donate, volunteer, share posts & adopt! We work super hard to place each & every animal in the best matched home. Sometimes we get negative push back because of our detailed screening guidelines but I am fully committed to each animal we adopt out. ❤️ They have all had failed homes-often multiple and deserve to never be given up on again. 9 dogs who just found forever homes: Oshkosh, Bixby, Luna, Rocky, Ivy, Shelby, Kenosha, Sampson & Madison! 😊

Update: the owner of the Yellow Lab & Boxer mix met me tonight to claim her dogs. So please note those 2 in the video are not for adoption. Help is needed!! Please!! We have gotten 9 new dogs in the last 3 days, several were claimed but we still have 11 dogs in 9 kennels. Foster & adoptive homes are desperately needed!! We have reduced our dog adoption fee on already spayed/neutered dogs to $75. PAWS is open Sunday 1-3pm.
