Found a Lost Animal?
If you find a pet that has been displaced, likely due to Tropical Storm Debby, here's what to do according to Charleston Police Department Animal Control:
1- Check for ID: Such as a collar or tag that may have the owner's information.
2 - Scan for a microchip: Take the pet to your local animal shelter to have them scanned. West Ashely Vet Clinic can scan for a microchip but we are unable to house lost pets. If the microchip is not registered, or the owner is unreachable, then you will need to contact Animal Control.
2- Report to Animal Control: If you can't immediately locate the owner, report the found animal by phone at 843-743-7200 or online at 911helpme.com. Follow the instructions that the officer gives you regarding the pet.

We are planning to open tomorrow (Thursday) at 9:30am as long as the weather ⛈ 💨🌀doesn't prevent our staff (and valued clients-patients) from making it to the clinic. Please call before you head our way!

08/07/2024

We are currently open with a limited staff! Please call📞☎ the office (843-571-7095) if you need medication refills or possibly need to have your pet seen. At this time, we are unsure of when we will be closing today.

08/06/2024

Due to the continued inclement weather and many flooded roadways in the vicinity, we will continue to remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday August 7th.

Please check back later for updates regarding business hours for the rest of the week.

We hope everyone continues to stay safe through this lingering storm! 🙏🏻💙

08/06/2024

Due to the heavy rain and associated weather from T.S. Debby, we have made the difficult decision to close our office TODAY 8/6/2024 for the safety and well-being of our clients-patients, and our staff.

Because there is no reliable forecast for the track of this storm, we are uncertain if we will be open over the next couple of days. We will post updates as soon as decisions are made. Phones, email and text will not be monitored while we are closed

To the best of our knowledge, the local 24-hour emergency facilities will remain open: Charleston Veterinary Referral Center ; BluePearl Pet Hospital

We greatly appreciate your understanding and hope that everyone remains safe during this storm!

The cats are out of the bag, Meowlloween is coming! Are you ready for an afternoon for the cats?

After 1 p.m. on October 31st, 2023, we will celebrate our kitty for this Meowlloween. We are going all out for our felines only event. The afternoon will be dedicated to feline wellness care, early detection lab work, and other feline-focused care. For our senior kitties, we now have options like Solensia, a once-a-month injection, to give them relief from those creaky joints (i.e. arthritis) and get them back to playing tricks. Be sure to schedule an appointment for your cat on Meowlloween to join us for light treats (for the human chauffeurs), special pricing on early detection testing, and random chances to win some pawsome prizes!! It will be a monster of an afternoon.

Get prepared now! Please include your pets in your emergency plan!! 🐾🐶🐱🐕‍🦺🐈‍⬛🙏

All Eyes on Idalia

South Carolina residents should prepare for Tropical Storm Idalia, which forecasters say will become a hurricane today, and could affect many parts of the state after making landfall along the west coast of Florida. While forecasters with the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center believe Idalia will weaken to a tropical storm after landfall, South Carolina could experience four to eight inches of rain, with heavier rainfall amounts possible locally, isolated tornadoes, storm surge flooding and flash flooding beginning Wednesday.

South Carolina residents should continue to monitor the storm via local news media, follow updates from the National Hurricane Center and local National Weather Service offices, and double-check their emergency plans, including:

Double Check Your Emergency Kit: Prepare an emergency kit with non-perishable food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, a first-aid kit, and important documents. Make sure your kit can sustain your household for at least three days, but preferably with enough supplies to last a week or more.

Clear Gutters and Drains: Make sure to clear your gutters and storm drains of debris to prevent water accumulation and reduce the risk of flooding around your home.

Secure Outdoor Items: Store or secure outdoor furniture, garden tools, and toys. High winds can turn these objects into dangerous projectiles.

Stay Informed: Monitor local weather forecasts and stay informed about the developments of the storm. Have several ways to get emergency information.

Hurricanes and tropical storms not only threaten the coast, but all areas of South Carolina. Storm surge and flooding are the most deadly and destructive hazards associated with tropical storms and hurricanes. High winds and tornadoes can cause severe damage to buildings and homes far inland.

SCEMD has several resources available for people to prepare for hurricanes and tropical storms, including the state’s online interactive hurricane guide at hurricane.sc.

Anyone can use the SC Emergency Manager mobile app to Know Your Zone, build a personal emergency plan, find emergency shelter locations (when open), and stay connected with loved ones. The SC Emergency Manager is available in the App Store and on Google Play: http://onelink.to/dn92rx.

The official 2023 S.C. Hurricane Guide is also available in English and Spanish at scemd.org.
