LOWCOUNTRY PAWS UNITE: BERKELEY, CHARLESTON AND DORCHESTER SHELTERS OFFERING FREE ADOPTIONS FOR A LIMITED TIME
Local Shelters Collaborate to Address Overcrowding with Free Adoptions

Lowcountry animal shelters face a critical overcrowding crisis, especially with adult dogs filling every available space. In response, Charleston Animal Society, Berkeley Animal Center, and Dorchester Paws are joining forces to launch a lifesaving adoption event, Lowcountry Paws Unite, offering free adoptions for all animals from Thursday through Sunday.

From playful pups to cuddly cats, every pet in need of a home will be available for adoption free of charge, providing a unique opportunity for Lowcountry residents to make a real difference. Adoption plays a pivotal role in helping community shelters alleviate the strain of overcrowding, ensuring that animals in need find a safe, loving home.

WHY NOW?
Overcrowding in shelters poses significant challenges for both animals and staff. With limited space, resources, and personnel, shelters struggle to provide each animal's necessary care and attention.

"Adult dogs, in particular, face a higher risk of prolonged stays due to misconceptions about adoptability," said Charleston Animal Society Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Aldwin Roman. "The Lowcountry Paws Unite event hopes to change that perception and encourage people to consider adding a furry friend of any size to their families."

EVENT DETAILS
Lowcountry Paws Unite will run from Thursday through Sunday across three major shelters in the Lowcountry. Shelters participating in the event include:

Charleston Animal Society: 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston

Berkeley Animal Center: 131 Central Berkeley Dr, Moncks Corner

Dorchester Paws: 136 4 Paws Ln, Summerville,

It's National Senior Pet Month!

Celebrating Our Golden Oldies:

As our furry companions age, they become increasingly precious to us. Just like humans, pets experience the effects of aging, but with proper care, they can live long, healthy, and happy lives. This November, we celebrate National Senior Pet Month by highlighting the importance of senior pet care.
As pets age, they may develop age-related health conditions such as arthritis, kidney disease, and heart disease.

Here are some tips for keeping your senior pet healthy and happy:

• Regular Veterinary Check-ups: Schedule check-ups every 6 months, or more frequently if recommended. Regular checkups provide early detection of age-related health problems.

• Proper Nutrition: Consult your veterinarian to determine the best diet for your senior pet's specific needs, considering their age, breed, activity level, and any existing health conditions. This helps maintain a healthy weight, supports organ function, and provides the necessary nutrients for aging pets.

• Dental Care Importance: Good oral health prevents pain, infection, and other health problems associated with dental disease. Brush your pet's teeth regularly, use dental chews or treats approved by your veterinarian, and provide fresh water.

• Exercise: Maintains muscle mass, flexibility, and cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and promotes better sleep. Gentle walks & swimming are great options.

• Environmental Enrichment: Provide mental and physical stimulation through toys, puzzles, and interactive play.

• Pain Management: If your pet is experiencing pain, consult your veterinarian for appropriate pain management options. Some signs of pain include limping, difficulty getting up or down, changes in behavior, decreased appetite, or vocalizing.
This November let's show our love and appreciation for our senior pets. By providing them with the care they need, we can help them enjoy a comfortable and fulfilling golden age.
We are proud to be a part of your pet's journey!
