2 young black and tan coonhounds are sitting at Colleton County in lockup waiting for rescue. There was 3 but unfortunately while running loose from either being dumped or escaping, one was hit by a car and unfortunately killed.
THESE DOGS CAN BE FOSTERED SEPARATELY!
There is a male and a female (housed together because the shelter that has capacity for 67 animals is currently housing 150+ dogs alone) and we want to help them and others stuck there but we absolutely CANNOT without a committed Charleston SC area foster home. We do not have a facility or long term boarding option so a foster home is likely their only chance of making it out. Combining their age with an extremely overcrowded, underfunded, and under supported shelter means the longer they are there, the longer their chances of deterioration. This is 100% a time sensitive crisis! We would love to have them out by next week.
Foster apps can be found at carolinacoonhoundrescue.com. We will not be able to test for cat friendliness until we have them in our possession. They are dog friendly (feeding separate is always recommended!). Due to age they are likely energetic and fenced yards are recommended so they can stretch their legs.
Marlena is one of our newer intakes to rescue and she’s very shy. She’s got a wild side though when she lets her hair down and her extroverted foster sister Rosie is really helping her cut loose and have fun!
Marlena is around 5 years old, 40 pounds, and a hound mix of some sort. She’s 100% awesome! Because Marlena is so timid, a home with older children is probably best. She’s not aggressive in any way, we just feel like the noise and rambunctiousness of younger children may be a bit much for her on a day to day basis. Marlena definitely finds comfort in other dogs so a home with another dog is required for her and another playful dog is even better! She’s quiet so an apartment could work for her, but she is shy about pottying too so an area where she can be off leash to relieve herself is necessary.
Marlena is unfortunately heartworm positive and requires treatment which she will begin in about 6 weeks. She is available locally (Charleston SC area) as a foster to adopt through treatment. She will not be available outside of our immediate area until treatment is complete.

I'm pretty sure Cece was a backup dancer for Cyndi Lauper I'm a previous life because 🎼 girls just wanna have fun!🎼
This girl just loves to play with dogs of all sizes and then hardcore nap on the couch. She's such a great dog somebody needs her in their life!!
Margot is living her best life at a temp foster this weekend. She gets not one, but TWO CCR puppies to play with! Woody and Sid thinks she’s the GOAT! She doesn't let anything like non-working back legs slow her down. When needed, she's also got her wheels for walks or going to local breweries!
Margot is a 4yr old special needs girl that deserves a loving home. She would do best in a home with other dogs, as you can see, she loves them!
We are grateful for Animal Medical West for always helping us.
Special thank you to the Neurology and Rehab department Charleston Veterinary Referral Center for all their help!
This wouldn’t be possible without her wonderful foster home at Dawn’s house and many wonderful supporters.

Lilly is one of our newest intakes and previously spent 240+ days with our friends at the Colleton County shelter. She’s headed up to Coondog Day in Saluda NC with us this weekend and will be interviewing potential forever families!
Lilly will be bringing some friends up too that we will highlight over the next couple of days! If you’re in the market and planning to be at the event or live in the area, go ahead and get those applications in! We will only do on-site adoptions for pre-approved families.
