FOSTER NEEDED ASAP!

Last week we announced that we had pulled Surcee from the shelter and that her brother had been adopted from the shelter as well. Unfortunately, while he passed the cat test at the shelter, he was a little too bold with the cats once he was home so he’s back to SC and now in our care as well.

Luther is an active young boy who really loves people and other dogs. He’s working on his crate manners and is a bit barkey right now when he’s left alone but he does sleep quietly in it at night when he’s in the same bedroom as his family.

Luther’s current foster was only ever a temp option and we need to move him. Currently Luther needs a Charleston SC area foster home as of Thursday afternoon/early Friday morning. His current temp foster is going out of town, backup plans fell through, and boarding is full.

Luther is heartworm positive so he’s available to a local foster to adopt family as well. If you’d like to foster Luther until he’s adopted or foster to potentially adopt, please fill out an app at carolinacoonhoundrescue.com.

Other dogs and kids ok. No cats or shared walls (apartments/townhomes etc).

Surcee was sprung from Colleton! She’s a super sweet, somewhat timid girl. She’s getting some much needed TLC from our vets and her wonderful foster family!

Her Brother was adopted but unfortunately, despite passing his cat test at the shelter, has decided that chasing kitties is fun. The cat on the other hand, not so thrilled with the game. We are working to bring him back to Charleston so he will also be available.

There are still TONS of dogs in shelters that need us. If you are local to Charleston and can help, we need fosters now more than ever! We provide everything you need from the vet care to the food, you just provide the love and shelter!

Here is a better pic of the Black and Tan we are trying to save. She’s one of the dogs we posted in the video a few days back. Her brother has been adopted and now she’s there alone. She needs a lot of love and groceries and is very sad now that she’s alone. Please help us help her! We need a Charleston SC area foster home! She is good with other dogs, seems ok with cats she’s seen at the shelter and untested with kids, though typically hounds do great with children.

2 young black and tan coonhounds are sitting at Colleton County in lockup waiting for rescue. There was 3 but unfortunately while running loose from either being dumped or escaping, one was hit by a car and unfortunately killed.

THESE DOGS CAN BE FOSTERED SEPARATELY!

There is a male and a female (housed together because the shelter that has capacity for 67 animals is currently housing 150+ dogs alone) and we want to help them and others stuck there but we absolutely CANNOT without a committed Charleston SC area foster home. We do not have a facility or long term boarding option so a foster home is likely their only chance of making it out. Combining their age with an extremely overcrowded, underfunded, and under supported shelter means the longer they are there, the longer their chances of deterioration. This is 100% a time sensitive crisis! We would love to have them out by next week.

Foster apps can be found at carolinacoonhoundrescue.com. We will not be able to test for cat friendliness until we have them in our possession. They are dog friendly (feeding separate is always recommended!). Due to age they are likely energetic and fenced yards are recommended so they can stretch their legs.

Camille is one of our newer intakes from the last month or so and she’s another hound mix that’s incredibly sweet! She’s aged around 2 years old, and weighs around 50 pounds. She’s great with other dogs and is currently living with several others of all shapes/sizes/breeds. She’s not so great with kitties though so no cats please. Camille does not currently live with kids but would likely be fine with kids. She’s got a great personality!

We believe that it’s possible Camille is Nola’s kid. They aren’t bonded in that they need to be adopted together and don’t mind being separated, but they came into the shelter together and Camille’s DNA came back as Treeing Walker Coonhound on her mommas side which is what Nola is!

Camille is heartworm negative and ready for adoption anywhere! If you’re looking for a gorgeous, sweet, playful girl, she’s your answer!

Marlena is a shy girl that came to us way back in November. She’s around 5 years old and is a hound mix of some sort weighing in around 40 pounds. She was heartworm positive on intake but has completed treatment and since she is a pretty introverted gal right now, she hasn’t been to any events and likely wouldn’t enjoy them. For this reason we need you to help us get Marlena seen! Please share for her adoptive home! Here’s a bit more from her foster parents:

“Marlena, or Marley as we've started calling her, is a dog transformed! While we don't know much about her background, she clearly was not used to receiving love or attention from humans. When we first took her in she was very timid and scared, to the point where she did not leave her crate (her safe place!) when we were nearby for weeks. But with lots of love, treats, and patience she has become an excitable, affectionate dog who is just dying to be your new best friend! Whether snuggled up on the couch, asking for pets, or going on walkies in the neighborhood, she just wants to spend her time by your side!

Marlena is potty trained, crate trained, and does well on a leash! She is still in the process of learning other commands, but she is very food motivated (American Cheese is her favorite treat, but she does not discriminate!) and eager to please so we feel confident she will learn quickly! She does well with other dogs and has gained a lot of confidence from her foster sister, Rosie. She is still learning how to be a dog (she is interested in toys, but doesn't quite know what to do with them!), so she would thrive in a home with a companion who is eager to show her the ropes! Marlena is still a bit nervous around new human friends, so will likely require some patience and love while settling into her new home. Once she comes out of her shell, she would love nothing more than a human who gets to spend every day with her, but she does well in her crate during working hours as needed!”

Marlena is ok with cats but due to her very shy nature in a new home, small kids that make sudden movements and random loud noises may be too much for her to live with, visitors should be fine though (ie: friends, neighbors, grandkids etc).

Just me! Bradley!

Ok... Bradley might not understand how KNOCK knock jokes work, but he's so cute you'd open the door just to give this cutie some ear rubs!

Bradley is a 3 year old foxhound mix who can be a bit shy at first but warms up quickly and will be sure to be your absolute best friend! He loves other dogs and appreciates having a quiet place to relax with his humans.

During his pre-op bloodwork we discovered that Bradley had some mildly concerning kidney numbers. we put him on a special kidney diet and he is doing very well. His follow up bloodwork showed about the same results so we are going to recheck again in three months. He could be in the all clear in three months, or he could need to be on kidney food for life.  we just don’t know at this point, and we know that this may hurt his chances to find an adopter. But we are also so grateful to have the support and resources to provide this critical blood work and associated care to the dogs we are trusted to care for, and we are always upfront and honest about our dogs with any information we know about them.

Meet Elloree! Elloree is a recent pull from our friends at Berkeley Animal Center where she found herself after wandering alone. No one came to bring her home so we are helping her find a new forever!

Elloree is around 2 years old and was extremely thin on intake so she’s working on gaining her weight back and what it’s like to be an indoor dog! She’s young and still energetic so a home with another playful dog is a plus. She doesn’t know she’s not little so that can get smaller kids and dogs in trouble sometimes, but only because she’s playful, not due to aggression of any kind. She’s a bull in a china shop 🫢.

Elloree is heartworm positive and seeking a foster to adopt family in the Charleston SC area while she undergoes treatment. She is untested with cats but we do have the ability to test her if needed.

Tomorrow (3/7) is the LAST day to purchase tickets to our 12th Annual Oyster Roast and Silent Auction for just $45/person (kids 12 and under free!). Ticket Prices will increase to $55 on Saturday (3/8).

Ticket prices include all you can eat food (including oysters), non-alcoholic beverages, and activities for the kids so there’s no surprise extra costs. Alcohol is also available for purchase and the Silent Auction is always AMAZING!
