Pet Helpers - Foster Care

Pet Helpers - Foster Care As a forever shelter, we have very limited space because all of our animals stay with us until they are adopted.

Our mission is to end the euthanasia of all adoptable dogs and cats by operating a no-kill shelter, promoting forever adoptions and humane education, and providing low-cost spay/neuter surgeries all with help from fosters like you! We believe that the animals entering our shelter deserve to have the best possible chance at finding a loving, permanent home. A foster parent has one of the most impor

tant jobs at the shelter. Foster parents allow our animals to receive the proper care and attention they deserve as they wait for adoption. A foster program maximizes the number of animals rescued and it allows an organization to care for animals that would be difficult to care for in a shelter environment—orphaned or abandoned animals, animals recovering from major surgery, or dogs needing one-on-one behavior rehabilitation. Most of these will be kittens and puppies who were not old enough to be adopted but could be saved with some tender loving care and nurturing in homes for a few weeks. Once they are old enough, they can be adopted into permanent homes. For animals that may need a break from the shelter environment, foster care provides a comfortable home setting that keeps them happy and healthy. And, of course, a foster program directly involves people in our lifesaving mission and shows the community that SAVING LIVES is a joint effort. As a foster parent you'll not only save the lives of animals in your care, but you'll give other animals coming into the shelter, who may not need the same level of attention, a space on our adoption floor to find their own loving homes.

Hi All!

I would like to personally extend my gratitude to each of you for your willingness to assist by offering foster homes for our pets during the recent storm. We are pleased to inform you that we have successfully secured foster placements for all of our animals. Your generous responses were immensely appreciated.

I apologize if I was unable to reply to all emails due to the overwhelming volume of over 70 messages we received. Your enthusiasm and support were truly heartening.

We are continuously seeking additional foster caregivers for both emergency situations, such as storms, and for routine needs, including the care of puppies and kittens prior to adoption. I encourage you to visit our website and complete a foster application to be added to our email list for future opportunities and urgent requests.

You can find the application here: https://pethelpers.org/foster/

Thank you once again for your generosity and readiness to help.

In 2009, I began a second career, so to speak, as a volunteer at Pet Helpers Adoption Center on James Island. Over the next several years, I became the number one dog volunteer, working almost daily by doing adoption counseling, evening feeding, and walking, and helping close the shelter. While I sp...

We have the best puppy fosters. Collard snuggling with her foster brother and Folklore learning to sit with his foster sibling. We can't be more grateful for our fosters for opening up their homes and for their pups teaching the Littles to be the best puppies they can be. If you'd like to become a member of our foster program, please reach out at [email protected]
