Yes, tea tree oil can be toxic to dogs.
Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree. While it is often used as a natural antiseptic and antifungal agent, it can be harmful to dogs if ingested, inhaled, or applied directly to their skin.
Toxicity:
Ingestion: Even small amounts of tea tree oil can be toxic to dogs. Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, seizures, and coma.
Inhalation: Tea tree oil vapors can irritate a dog's respiratory system, causing coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing.
Skin contact: Applying tea tree oil directly to a dog's skin can cause irritation, redness, swelling, and even burns.
Prevention:
Never use tea tree oil on or around your dog without consulting a veterinarian first.
Keep tea tree oil products out of reach of dogs.
If you suspect your dog has ingested or inhaled tea tree oil, contact a veterinarian immediately.
Note: Some commercially available products contain small amounts of tea tree oil that are considered safe for dogs when used as directed. However, it is always best to consult with a veterinarian before using any product that contains tea tree oil on your dog.

🎉 Your Thanksgiving Dinner + One Adorable Guest = Barksgiving Bliss! 🐾🦃

What’s better than turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie? Sharing it with a furry dinner guest who’s ready to wag their way into your heart!

✨ Introducing the Barksgiving Foster Program! ✨
Here’s the deal:
🍗 Pick up your VIP (Very Important Pup) on Wednesday, November 27.
🐾 Give them the BEST holiday ever (couch snuggles are mandatory).
🦴 Return them Saturday, November 30—though fair warning, you might fall in love.

We’ll hook you up with all the essentials: food, toys, and a crate. You just supply the love, the belly rubs, and maybe a taste of turkey (no pecan pie, though—that’s a ruff no).

Why do it?
Because no pup should spend Thanksgiving alone. And let’s be real—your family needs a furry guest to spice up your holiday pics.

💡 Ready to paw-ticipate? Fill out our matchmaking survey now! 🐶💖

📢 Let’s make Barksgiving unforgettable for every shelter pup. One turkey dinner, one wagging tail at a time. 🐕✨

If you have a mixed breed dog, you can get the dog registered with American Kennel Club (AKC.org) for a nominal fee. Then you can participate in AKC events. There is an up-coming AKC FETCH event in North Charleston. If your dog gets along with other dogs, is at least 6 months of age and AKC registered, your dog may be able to participate in this fun event. Let me know for more information.
