Cutie Alert 🎉
💛💛 Val 💛💛
Age: 7
Weight: 50 #
Tolerant of other Dogs? (on a scale of 0-10 with 0 meaning no tolerance and 10 meaning your foster loves ALL dogs ALL the time and is extremely rare) - 7 Val is fine with other dogs as long as they don't try to come around her when there is food. She doesn't like female dogs and is definitely an alpha and will mark her territory.
Does your foster need a home with other dogs or would they be okay being an only dog? She would love to soak up allll the attention and be an only princess. But she is OK with male dogs - just not around food or when she is getting attention from people.
Cats (wants to play with, ignores, prey drive is alerted, has never seen or is unknown) She will walk up to smell our cat - but doesn't have interaction other than that. Our cat is scared of her noises...and he's older so she just stays away from her.
Good with Kids over 6? How does your foster show he/she likes or does not like kids? (Sorry, we do not adopt to families with kids under 6.) Val loves everyone! She loves kids and adults. Anyone who shows her attention.
Behavior while riding in a vehicle? Any concerning issues like stress, panting, can’t settle, needs a crate, etc.? She loves to ride in the car and on our golf cart. She tries to get into FedEx, UPS, and the mail truck.
Manners: (ex: Good, Needs work, Humps, etc. Please describe behaviors) She has started licking my legs and doing a hu***ng motion. I try to redirect her. Mostly her manners are good. She will mark a lot outside.
Walks well on a harness and leash? Pulls? Val is great on a leash. She will stop and not move as most bullies when she decides she's had enough. She loves to sit and/or lay down outside and bake like a potato. What does your foster do when seeing other dogs on walks? She normally doesn't pay them any attention. But honestly it's been so hot here we wont' do walks around the neighborhood - she walks around our yard mostly.
House trained? No. I am home most days all day and I take her out frequently.
How do they signal they need to go outside to potty? None. I take her out every few hours.
If not 100%, how close are they to being fully house-trained? Not sure
Crate trained? Yes She will poop/pee in her crate if you she hasn't gone outside in a while.
Is your foster okay to not be crated and out in the house when no one is home? If she was an only child, yes. She doesn't bother anything other than one wicker chair i have. She recently decided she likes to chew on one piece of it.
Feelings about space restrictions? (ex: Crate aggressive? No Knocks down baby gates? N/A Whines or barks?) She only barks when it's near breakfast or dinner time.
Likes to be on the furniture? Yes
Are there any resource-guarding issues with guarding people, food, toys, space/areas, and/or beds? Is the guarding behavior directed at other dogs or people? She doesn't play with any toys. I give her Yak bones to chew on and she is take it or leave it with those. If YOU are eating she needs to be separated from another dog.
Separation Anxiety? How does your foster react when you are not home? Val's fine being left at home.
Bathing behavior? Tolerant of having facial folds, ears, and tail pocket cleaned? Yes
Behavior while having nails trimmed? Dremel or clipped? Not able to clip her nails. The Vet did them during her spay.
Does a professional groomer need to trim the nails or can they be done safely at home? Not at home.
Favorite type of toys? She doesn't care about toys.
Favorite activity? Riding in the car or anything that moves. Loves being outside and loves getting attention.
Good with stairs? No
Reaction to loud noises (thunder, fireworks, yelling, etc.)? The fireworks didn't bother her over July 4th. She only barks if it is a loud noise that startles her. Sleeps through most thunderstorms.
Know any cues or tricks? She knows sit.
Snores? Yes but mild.
Snuggle interest? Loves it.
Energy level? 4
Dominant or submissive? Dominant
Fenced yard required? No
Okay to live in an apartment or condo with close neighbors and be in the apartment complex dog areas which are likely to have other dogs? Yes - with someone with her during time outside with other dogs.
Reaction to strangers in and outside the home and to new situations (fearful, laid-back, anxious, happy)? Happy! Loves human attention.
Long-term physical limitations or conditions? Long-term medications? Val has dry eye and will need daily drops for the rest of her life. She also has a huge rope fold that needs daily cleaning with a chlorhexiderm wipe and lotion administered.
Feeding: NAME of the food and formula/flavor being fed, AMOUNT FED, HOW MANY TIMES A DAY ARE THEY FED, ANY FOOD ALLERGIES and FAVORITE TREATS:
REMINDER: Bulldogs should not eat winged proteins such as chicken, turkey, duck, etc., no grains, no sweet or regular potatoes, and need to be kept on a grain-free, limited ingredient diet to reduce allergic reactions such as itching, yeast, ear infections, hot spots, interdigital cysts, etc. Val eats Zignature Lamb and Probiotics. I give her 3/4 of a cup twice daily. She came to me 10 # overweight so once she gets a few more pounds off she might go to a cup 2x daily.
Unique characteristics (eye color, crooked ears, swirly butt, etc.) She has brown eyes, no tail pocket issues and wags her cute tail.
What would be your foster dog’s mantra? Give me all the love and attention as I am Princess Val. She really is a doll.
What are some of the great things about your foster and is there anything he/she needs to work on or have continued training for in their new home? Val is such a sweetheart. She never meets a stranger and loves everyone and is a very happy girl. She needs continued work on housetraining.
Describe your foster’s ideal forever home: Val's ideal home would be a family where she is the only child or has a brother fur sibling. Someone is home a lot and can continue to work with her on her bathroom behavior and wants to have her by their side 100% of the time. She thrives off of attention. She loves to go outside and walk around often and car rides are her favorite activity. Val loves fresh banana and cooked hamburger meat as treats.
Is there anything else that Courtney should know to choose the best home and best match for your foster? I sing to her every day and although I have a horrible singing voice, Val loves it. I call her Valerini Pupachini Fetticini and I sing it to her. She loves being told what a good girl she is. I also play hide and seek with her in our family room. Val's vision and hearing are not 100% - but she can see and hear when you are close by her. If she is getting your attention she doesn't like another dog near her.
