Office Updates✨

In an effort to serve our community more fully and be able to provide the most services, we have changed our hours somewhat!

We will now be having FULL wellness days on Tuesdays and Thursdays to provide your preventatives, vaccines, and basic care🩺

Our surgical schedule will now be combined and we will be having a full surgery day each Wednesday💉

Additionally, we open our surgical schedule for each month on the 15th of the previous month! This helps cut down on missed appointments, over-booking, and also allows us more flexibility for community events🩵These appointments fill up quickly! So be sure to watch the calendar for when our next months’ schedule opens!

We are so thankful for our community and the support you show us! We know that these changes will be an adjustment, but will hopefully allow us to use our time in a more efficient manner to serve you!🥰

So long 2024! 👋🏼🥳 It was certainly a year to remember for our shelter. But when we step back to see our total impact, it reminds us of the work we can accomplish together!

PS We'll be closed today (1/1) but our staff are still going in to care for the animals ❤️

INTAKE:
🐱 Cats/Kittens: 1,537

🐶 Dogs/Puppies: 2,602

🦜 Other: 2 rats, 1 pig, 2 gerbils, and 1 parrot

👮🏻‍♀️ Animal Control Calls: 2,254 + 1,653 for City of Charleston Police Department Humane Officers + an additional 1,308 calls taken through our friends at Metro 911 of Kanawha County 🐾

💕 Return to Owner: 333 (including the parrot!)

Happy early Thanksgiving!🍂🧡

Our office will be closed 11/25 through 11/29 for our team to enjoy time with their families! We will resume regularly scheduled hours on Tuesday the 3rd🥰

We wanted to give you some simple reminders to keep in mind as the holidays approach! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! And we want to help keep your pets safe, happy, and at home where they belong🐾

Our medical team is hiring!

Those on this team help us provide high quality medical care to the animals we love so dearly! Some tasks include: prepping animals for surgery, helping them recover from anesthesia, administering vaccines and other treatments, assisting our veterinarians in exams, filling prescriptions, and more!🩺

KCHA's medical department is a hard-working bunch that are imperative to our life-saving mission. ❤ We aren't going to sugar coat it - this position can see some really hard things, and you have to be nimble and quickly shift as emergencies come in.

But! At the end of the day, you'll know you ALWAYS make a difference for the animals in most critical need of a helping hand 🥹🐾

Part time up to 30 hours per week. Starting pay $11/hr

• $25 microchips
• select dewormers and flea medications

Fix Charleston is looking for a veterinary technician or assistant to join our team!🩵 Our assistants and technicians help us to provide high quality care to the animals we see by prepping them for surgery, helping them recover from anesthesia, administering vaccines and other treatments, as well as assisting our doctors in exams!🩺

Here at Fix Charleston feral cats are treated with compassion and love, just like regular pets! 😻

Support TNR in your community by dropping off trapped cats for spay/neuter on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays!🩺

Drop off time: 8:00-8:15
Cats must be in a trap and will receive an ear tip during the procedure (to indicate they have been fixed!)

Due to our very full schedule each day, we have to limit TNR to two cats per day. However, if you have a cat that needs fixed our team will work to find a solution to help🙏🏻

Summer is HERE🥵☀️

While summertime is great for outdoor walks and days by the pool…it’s also super great for causing our pets to overheat!😱

Check out this infographic our friends at SPCA of Texas shared to learn what the signs of heatstroke are and see who are most at risk!

What do you do if your pet experiences any combination of these symptoms?
• Move them to a cool place🏡
• Start active cooling by using a cool (not cold) damp cloth over their body💧
• Travel to a veterinary office IMMEDIATELY🩺

We want your pets to enjoy summer, while also being safe!🩵 By limiting time outdoors during the mid day hours and always offering fresh water to drink, we can keep our pets happy, hydrated, and healthy!

The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association is seeking a part-time HQHVSN veterinarian to join our lifesaving team in our Fix Charleston Clinic.
KCHA is an established, small-animal shelter with a goal of growing our abilities. We would like to find a DVM to join our team who believes in our mission - to end unwarranted euthanasia in the state of West Virginia. We’re looking for someone who has a passion for the under-dog and a commitment to providing the best possible care to pets and the community🩵

As a veterinarian at Fix Charleston you will have the opportunity to treat animals in a variety of different ways, including: spay/neuter, wellness, illness, injury, and other surgeries as needed.

So it’s time for your pets’ annual exam…but what vaccines do they need?😱

The WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) has just released new guidelines for “core” vaccines. In other words, vaccines that we should plan for our pets to have!💉

The updated recommendation is for dogs in a home to receive the DHPP, rabies, and leptospirosis vaccines. For cats, the FVRCP, rabies, and feline leukemia vaccines. (Cats do need a Combo test prior to the Leukemia vaccine to ensure that they do not have active infection)🩵
