Pet Helpers is a nonprofit 501(c)3 Rescue and Adoption Center that serves communities across the Lowcountry. Our mission is to end the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs by keeping all animals until adopted; providing low cost spay/neuter surgeries; offering humane education programs; pursuing animal-cruelty prosecution; and initiating animal-welfare legislation. We also have a high quality

, low-cost Spay/Neuter Center that is open to the public. We offer vaccines, heartworm prevention/treatment, general surgeries, and routine medical care for your pet. Pet Helpers’ vision is to offer affordable, spay/neuter services and access basic wellness services to families across the Lowcountry. We offer these services to the general public but also focus aggressively on communities with high rates of animal reproduction and pets belonging to low-income populations. Increased accessibility to affordable spay neuter services and basic wellness care will reduce pet overpopulation and help to keep animals out of the shelter system.

🚨 Big News for Lost Pets in Charleston! 🚨

Thanks to a $10,000 KFC Wishes grant, Pet Helpers is launching Charleston’s first-ever 24/7 microchip scanner stations to help reunite lost pets with their families quickly and safely!

🌟 Coming Soon: Our first station will be installed at Pet Helpers, with additional locations in Downtown Charleston, Johns Island, and West Ashley expected to be up and running by early 2025.

This initiative will help reduce shelter overcrowding and empower YOU—our community—to make a real impact by helping lost pets find their way home.

🔑 Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ If you find a lost pet, stop by one of the scanner stations. 2️⃣ Simply scan for a microchip, and get connected with the pet’s owner instantly. 3️⃣ No need to bring the pet to a shelter or clinic!

🗣️ "By placing microchip scanners throughout our community, we are making it possible for Charleston residents to make a real impact in their neighborhoods,” says Pet Helpers’ Executive Director, Melissa Susko. “This initiative brings our mission to ensure every animal finds its way home one step closer to reality.”

Ever wondered what happens after our furry friends leave the shelter? Let us introduce you to Savannah, a sweet little kitty who recently found her dream home. Spoiler: she’s living her best life! 🌟

Turns out, she’s packed with resilience, joy, and a whole lot of fabulousness. She’s already taught her new labrador brother, Casey a thing or two about her favorite new game: chase the tail! It took him a minute to realize that Savannah zooming after his wagging tail was all in fun, but now they’re the best of buddies.

Savannah’s new family says she’s an inspiration, bringing positivity and joy to everyone she meets. And we can’t help but love seeing these happily-ever-afters that prove how incredible rescue pets really are.

We live for these updates! 🥰 Rescue pets like Savannah prove that shelter animals are simply waiting to be the star of someone’s world. So, thank you to her family for giving us a glimpse into her new, fabulous life!

✨ Say hello to Greyson – a gentle 6-month-old boy with a heart of gold. He’s quiet, sweet, and loves to snuggle. Greyson would do best in a peaceful home with a playful companion to keep him company.

🚚💙 We’ve had a lot of you ask how you can help with the hurricane relief effort donation drive, and we’re beyond grateful for the outpouring of love and donations! 🙌 Tomorrow , Pet Helpers will be loading up two box trucks full of supplies thanks to our amazing community.

Warning: ⚠️ Disturbing images

Many of you in the Charleston animal community may have heard the heartbreaking news… 💔 Over a dozen animals, including 12 cats and 3 possums, were tragically found deceased along Drop Off Drive in Summerville. These cats were part of a cared-for colony monitored by the Lowcountry TNR and Feral Cat Network.

We at Pet Helpers are devastated by this senseless cruelty and are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. We’re hopeful for justice and protection for any surviving animals.

Our shelter pups are in serious need of a towel upgrade! Right now, they’re rocking the “air dry” look and, honestly, it’s not their best style. 😅

Got any extra large bath towels or beach towels lying around? Our furry friends need them for drying off after baths, for snuggly bedding, and for making their kennels feel like home.

We promise: for every towel donated, a puppy’s zoomies will be 30% faster, a kitten’s purr will get 20% louder, and our team’s sanity will increase by at least 50%. 📈💖
