We see this beauty every 2 weeks so she can always look her best when she goes for her evening walkies!

We love using dermatreat as her regular shampoo and her coat/skin has improved drastically since we first started our visits! It’s so important to use the right shampoo type and brand for your dog’s individual needs.

🩷Tips for working with blind pets🩷

This sweet boy may be completely blind but he is extremely sweet.

⭐️When grooming or working with dogs that are visually impaired always keep one hand on them so you don’t scare or startle them because they’ll know where you are! It can be scary not knowing what’s around. A simple gentle holding touch offers much needed security and trust.

⭐️Never directly touch or grab their head, rear end, or feet first when you need to work on those areas. Use your hand to start in a safe place like between the shoulder blades and gentle glide your hand to the area you need to touch or hold.

⭐️Use voice, touch, and smells to communicate to them. Give them praise to boost confidence. Most other senses, especially touch and smell are heighten when sight is lost. A dog’s nose 👃🏻 is their ultimate sensory receptor!

⭐️Most blind pets also have learned step up and step down commands which can help in guiding them around. Following the scent of a treat can also help guide them to where you need them to go if they seemed confused or scared of a new surrounding that they aren’t familiar navigating around.

🩷Most importantly be patient and understanding.

🩷MOBILE FOR SENIOR PETS🩷

As our pets age they may need more individualized care, a mobile setting is a perfect option for many senior pets!

It’s common for senior pets to have:

•increased reactions to strange or loud sounds

•increased anxiety

•mobility difficulty

•loss of hearing or sight

Senior pets may find a traditional high volume brick and mortar salon too stressful or may need an express service to decrease their time at the groomer.

A mobile setting gives senior pets a quieter environment with the stylists undivided attention and no waiting time. Getting familiar with and seeing the same groomer constantly will often ease their nervousness. Dogs will often recognize the same person by scent, so even if they can’t ear or see you, they can definitely smell you and know who you are!

We love our senior pets and believe comfort is top priority!

Here’s a couple tips!

1️⃣ Maintain a regular grooming schedule and by regular we mean 4 weeks or less. The longer the hair the more frequent.

2️⃣Do your at home maintenance. Brush and comb their coat, especially after activities. Don’t forget the conditioning spray!

3️⃣Be realistic with the haircut you want

It's no secret that Shih Tzus are irresistibly cute, with those adorable moonpie faces! 😍 But did you know they also have a rich breed history dating back to possibly 1000 B.C.?

Fun facts about shih tzus:

They are companion dogs and considered “warmers” for their humans. Royalty carried them inside robes and used them as feet/bed warmers.

They are an ancient breed, originating from Tibetan monasteries and were given to Chinese royalty as gifts.

The Mandarin phrase “Shih Tzu” translates to “little lion.” 🦁 It is believed they were the small lion dog that accompanied Buddha. Transforming into a large lion that he rode.

It is suggested that Fu Dog statues guarding temples are the lionized version of shih tzus.

The breed almost went extinct but was saved in the late 1800s by Empress Tzu Hsi after receiving a breeding pair from the Dalai Lama. She created a strict breeding program to create the ideal “Imperial Dog”

The American Kennel Club officially recognized the Shih Tzu breed in 1969
