It’s true when I first started I had no intentions of creating a fleet or having employees. But here I am and I love it!!
I’ve learned throughout the 4 years in business that the majority of groomers felt the same as I did when I took on this adventure Dandi Pawz.
It’s far too common in the grooming industry that groomers are overworked and underpaid. And what I’ve learned is they often have what I call “salon mentality”. Meaning you can’t say no, you are often expected to take client abuse, decisions are often made by employers who have no experience grooming or often don’t take into consideration the groomers physical and mental health, more work doesn’t always equal more pay, if you have to unexpectedly take time off it may held against you, in addition to so many other concerns. Not all salons are like this and thankfully there has been a lot of change within the community but unfortunately this is still very common.
This leads groomers to feeling burnt out, stressed, possibly physically hurt which shortens their careers, and fearful of communication with both clients and the business.
I’ve made a promise to myself to value each professional on my team! Sometimes it does take time for them to get out of that “salon mentality” and I am there to support them along their own journey. Never be afraid to express your needs and stand up for yourself no matter where you work.
