Tell me about the most unique coral you have in your tank, or one you want to get and why! I'm curious about why people get the corals they get.

Heres mine! I LOVE cyphastrea! I like that you can see the polyps and they are larger. I love the colors! They dont grow too slow and not too fast, makes it the optimal coral in my opinion.

This weeks Coral highlight is the Pocillopora. It is a great beginner coral for those looking to try SPS for the first time. They are less sensitive than Acropora or Montipora yet retain that signature branching stony coral form. When stressed, their polyps have the ability to bail out of their skeletons and grow new colonies where they land.

Last Montipora of the week! Our gorgeous Purple Monti Cap sits at the top of the frag tank in all its glory. Its approximately 5 months old. Fast grower for sure! Easy to care for. Its starting to shadow our smaller corals so its time to frag it unfortunately, but I wanted to be able to showcase how beautiful a piece like this can get. For reference, the Jack O'Lantern to the bottom right is the size of a quarter.

Dont let the colors fool you! This is a Mystic Sunset Montipora. The Mystic Sunset at first glance looks like a Superman Montipora with reverse coloration, that being a red body and blue polyps. The polyps themselves are cool because they are half blue and half brown making a crescent shape. Check it out at https://www.cheekymermaidcorals.com

Believe it or not, this Spongeode is a type of Montipora! The neon green base will encrust outwards, then develope the polyps and build up like fingers. It requires moderate to high water flow and moderate to bright lighting (PAR 250-350) to maintain its color.

Jason Fox Rainbow Montipora is undoubtedly the most beautiful. The blue encrusting with the polyps changing color from reds and oranges along the edges...oh so pretty! Grows very quickly and loves high light and moderate flow.

Since we are highlighting Montipora this week, I thought I would show you the different types. This Monti has many polyps very close together and looks "fuzzy", not like the red and green caps most people know. Easy to keep, and loves high light. Dont have a name for it yet so maybe we will do a name game this week! Look for it!
