This Saturday I am running in the Teal Diva 5K to support women with ovarian cancer. Would you consider making a small donation?

On May 4, 2024 I will join hundreds of community members as we raise our voices against ovarian and other gynecologic cancers. In 2024, it is estimated that over 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and over 14,000 will die as a result of the disease. We can all make a difference in th...

The last few months have weighed heavily on my heart and it's taken me until now to share publicly. In March, a person close to me was diagnosed with 3c ovarian cancer. A month later I was diagnosed with DCIS (stage 0 breast cancer) through a routine mammogram. In May, a week and a half before my scheduled lumpectomy, my person was admitted to ICU with a septic blood infection. A Deaf friend with low language and learning disabilities attempted to take their life and I became their support person.

Why was my person diagnosed so late with ovarian cancer after having been sick for almost 2 years? Early symptoms of ovarian cancer often mimic digestive issues. I will post information about symptoms of ovarian cancer so know what to look for.

My friend is doing better and is working with a therapist and peer support to be more self-sufficient. Other Deaf friends stepped into support me and them.

My lumpectomy went great and I'm healed. I will begin radiation on Monday once daily for 5 days a week for a total of 4 weeks. I have focused on managing my type 1 diabetes, exercising, eating healthy, and have been blessed by the love of family and friends. I also have the most supportive clients and spend my days walking dogs and snuggling the occasional cat.

What am I learning? Cancer can strike anyone at any time. The experience is different for each of us. There is a large community of people who've been impacted by cancer and there is so much support. Forty-two years with Type 1 diabetes has taught me to remain strong during these challenging times. Boundaries are necessary for. I'm releasing my feelings of responsibility for others and can no longer be available to fix problems that result from their ongoing unhealthy choices. This one is hard for me. Prayer is about more than talking. It's about listening. Today I'm being led to share my story with all of you.

Thank you for reading. I'd love to hear your insights and thoughts. I ask that you not recommend any cures. The life of people with chronic illnesses are filled with people looking to offer quick solutions to things they know nothing about.

Love to you all!🩷🩵
