Ballantyne Rattery We take pride in regular health testing, proper nutrition and wellbeing of rats! Typically prices start between $25-$40 and can go upwards of $80/per rat.

Located in the heart of East Ballantyne(Charlotte, NC 28277), for 6 years our rattery has selectively and ethically bred for rats that have some of the best pet temperaments. Our prices are dependent on lineage/line(the longer a line has been worked with the higher the cost) and price can then go up slightly depending on coat color, coat type and ear type. We do offer deals when buying 3+ ratties!

Our prices are chosen to reflect time spent, money spent and care of our rats. We health test regularly and have been cleared of SDAV and RBF(Rat Bite Fever). Health testing is very expensive as is the upkeep of our rats. We give them the best of the best and put a lot of time into maintaining healthy lines and happy rats and our pricing reflects that! For the health, safety and overall wellbeing of our rats we ONLY adopt out in groups of 2 or greater. This means AT LEAST 2 or more rats must be adopted out at any 1 given time REGARDLESS of existing rats in the home or previous adoptions with us. A non-refundable deposit of half the total cost is due to hold any rats. By placing a deposit you agree to our terms, conditions and policies. By placing a deposit we guarantee the chosen rats and this ensures you a time slot for pickup. These include any statements made above as well as the following:

Any deposit is non-refundable unless I, the seller, have to cancel our appointment OR the rats are deemed to not be adoptable due to illness, injury or other health matters; whether that be genetic or disease related. If any of those occur, you are THEN subject to a refund for the full amount of deposit placed if you so choose. Anyone who schedules a pickup but then is a no-show automatically forfeits their rats and deposit. Please understand that once you place a deposit on any rats I am then telling others they are unavailable; thus forcing the rats to miss out on a potential home. I am very flexible and understanding of people and their various situations, so please reach out with any questions of concerns you may have. If for any reason you find yourself having to get rid of your rats they MUST come back to the rattery. This is non-negotiable and extremely important. No refund will be issued.

As of today all of our rats and lines have been successfully transferred to our friends MKT Reptiles & Rattery of Virginia and Sunny Savannah Rattery of Georgia!

We are so excited to have such good and reputable friends in the rat community to help us carry on our lines and very much look forward to the future of the Rattery!

A HUGE and special thanks to Rakel at MKT Reptiles & Rattery and Jacki Zirpolo of Sunny Savannah Rattery for opening up their homes to our mischief.

This set of ladies are to stay together and would only go to trusted breeders as I hope to get them back one day. Some temperament work does need to be done with them.

And PLEASE. READ the adoption application IN ITS ENTIRETY. DO NOT SKIP STEPS. If you skip steps or do not provide the proper information it will result in the system automatically denying the application. Unfortunately, I do not have time to go through the applications and explain the questions so it will be a one and done.

Hi All! I realize there’s been some issues with the website not working..

What I will be doing is working on a printable/downloadable version of the adoption application along with asking individuals specific questions surrounding adoption.

Unfortunately there is a time crunch on this to get all my rats homes within the next 2-3 weeks, so PLEASE, if you or anybody you know wants rats please reach out here or on my personal page or even my Rattery instagram!

As sad as we are to make this post… it looks like despite our best efforts we will be closing our Rattery doors.

We tried to pull every string we could to make it work, but it’s just not in the cards for us to keep going.

If anyone is interested in retirees or any of our lines to work with please just reach out!

I want to apologize for not making this post sooner and leaving you all hanging. Without disclosing too many details at this time, please just know been a tough week for us here. We’re working through the hardships, so if you don’t get a response from us that is why. We have a lot of personal matters that have had and will have our attention for a little while.

As of today our transport service, Hippity Hop Express, has decided to no longer carry mice or rats on board for reasons that her clientele disagrees with, but for reasons none the less.

Moving forward we will be searching for a new transport service to try so that we may be able to send rats further out within the US.

In the meantime, we are only able to offer more localized transport that includes us driving 1-2 hours out to meet adopters from our South Charlotte, NC 28277 location.

We will have some marble, silvermane, tonkinese and marten babies coming very soon! Hopefully we will get pictures done this week and start taking deposits this week or next for adoption at the end of this month! With that said, our marbles are 3 generations clean from suffering from malocclusion and we’re so thrilled! Malocclusion is an issue with the rats’ teeth where they grow in such a way the rat cannot trim them down by teeth grinding and they require help of a vet professional to grind them down to the appropriate size. Any of our rats that have displayed this always displayed towards the end of life ~2 years old. Just because our lines have been void of this does not mean the risk of malocclusion is diminished completely. I will be looking over our marbles VERY closely and only adopting out those I believe will not be a risk. Please know if you adopt a marble rat malocclusion is a possibility. OH. AND WERE ON TIKTOK NOW.

Our littles from our tonkinese/marten/velveteen litter ❤️ They’re not quite ready for play group yet, so they get to cuddle in our super comfy pet carriers!

Weather has been so overcast and yuck; not to mention too chilly to have the babies out! ❄️ So, as far as available rats we have decided to try an Easter themed photoshoot in the light box instead to jazz up the pictures. Anybody who wants more pictures in natural lighting can of course message us directly and we will make it happen! Thank you so much for your continued patience and understanding! We’re so excited to get these pictures to you all.

This little lady here is literally THE BEST mama. She weaned a litter of her own and happily took on helping care for another because mom of the litter was having lactation issues. 💕

EDIT: they are also messy pea fishers. 😂 They were 100% egging each other on to escape. Welcome to owning female rats. 🤣
