How to teach your dog to stop barking at guests.

1. While she is barking name the behavior "Bark" reward her.

2. Tell her to "hush" if you put food on the nose, she can't continue to bark!

Do that for a bit, then teach the behavior you want her to do instead of barking at the window or door, like lay down.

Keep doing this every time she barks and she will.start to understand what is expected.

Taught and evaluated my first Canine Good Citizen class this semester. Three of our students got their CGC and were able to get their Novice Tricks title tonight.

Had Ella here for 12 days (this is her "I'm bored in the cage look!) She was here for boarding, but no one leaves without being trained!!

While she was here, a very dangerous behavior surfaced, Ella eats socks, she doesnt chew them, she tries shoving them down her throat whole, like Joey Chestnut at the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating contest. She could choke and die!!

How we fixed it was to give her a sock in a controlled environment and then reward her for either bringing it or leaving it. We did this repeatedly, she was allowed to mouth the sock. Eventually, she lost interest in choking it down whole!! Mom will continue working on it at home.

I don't train dogs. I condition them.

A.dogs brain is simple and it tells the dogs Genes (for what it was bred to do) to turn on or off.

I can an condition my dog to react to the command "sit" the command is the stimulus, followed by a reward and the dog learns to react to the stimulus.

I can counter condition the dogs brain to turn off the genes that are programmed to react to a squirrel by conditioning the dog to turn to me when she sees the squirrel.

I learn what tools I can use to do that since each dog is bred differently and has temperaments within that breed

Ella!! She doesnt come to Camp Good Dog any more, she goes to "Aunt Vals House" when mom is away and she feels right at home.

Luke is back. He is a well trained dig, except when he sees a squirrel. He walks beautifully on leash until. . . Well, he sees a squirrel. We are working in "counter conditioning" to change his emotional response to the squirrel. You ignore it and focus on me. I am getting him started but it could take months. I am feeding him to change his emotional response. One objection that I get is people say you are rewarding him for jumping and barking. No, #counter_conditioning is different and it works!!

Ella is a Bird dog. She found a half dead bird and finally picks it up when it stops making noise.

Loose leash training Ella

Mom moved in with Puffy. I have taught her to go to her bed. In this video I am building duration. When you teach your dog something you want to grow the behavior by adding either duration, distance or distraction. I have eliminated distance and distractions and am working on duration.
