What really happens when your pets come “to the back” at our South Charlotte office.
Vanessa and Carol always get their work done first (they gave Hadley her Bordetella vaccine), but afterwards all bets are off and sometimes a mini Santa hat has to make an appearance. For obvious reasons we just can’t argue with. Are your kiddos getting into the holiday spirit?

How do you decide what to feed your pets?

It's easy to plan for the Thanksgiving dinner. Aunt Sally always brings the cranberry sauce, Grandma brings the yams and cousin Mel always brings the dish that no one can really identify. It's the same every year.
When it comes to figuring out what to feed our pets, though, it can be quite the head scratcher. Daily nutrition is as important to our pet's longterm health as it is our own. With so many options available it can be confusing and even frustrating to know what to feed them! From freeze dried food, to dry kibble, canned and even concoctions reminiscent of cousin Mel's mysterious dish, how do you decide what is best for your pets?

Probiotics + antibiotics, a relationship explained!

I’ve recently been asked by a few different clients if they should stop their probiotics since I’ve prescribed an antibiotic for their pet. Or if they should wait to start a probiotic until after the course of antibiotics have finished.

This made me realize there is a lot of misinformation about probiotics that needs to be cleared up.

When we dispense antibiotics, we want this medication to kill off a specific bacteria such as staph on the skin (pyoderma). As the antibiotic clears the staph infection, it may also kill off other bacteria, often ones in the gut.

We have preached the importance of gut health to all things in the body so we do not want to upset the gut flora. By giving a daily probiotic such as the ones pictured above, we can preserve the healthy gut flora, reduce the possibility of antibiotic associated diarrhea, and keep the immune system healthy.

We often recommend a daily probiotic for overall health but giving one while your pet is on an antibiotic can have many benefits.
