‼️WINTER IS COMING‼️
As the cold front to the south is approaching I’ve put together some info to help you and your reptiles!! I am based in NC so while I should be ok, shipping might be delayed for the next week or two! Please be patient as shipping is out of my control.
🥬 VEGGIE ALTERNATIVES 🥬
Frozen veggies, baby food, and yes even dehydrated veggies do great in a pinch if you can’t get your hands on fresh greens. If you feed dehydrated foods, it is best to rehydrate with water.
🪳PROTEIN ALTERNATIVES🪳
This applies more so for insectivores and young omnivores that tend to need more protein. If you have an adult beardie, don’t feed them protein, I promise they will be okay for a week or 2! My personal favorite alternatives are repashy products, they can form nicely when mixed with boiling water or mixed with room temp water and used in a syringe. Critical care is great for pets that really need the calories. Freeze dried again isn’t ideal but in a pinch will work, just rehydrate!!
❄️ HEATING ❄️
Most reptiles are okay until temps are consistently below 65 degrees. If you have a healthy adult reptile, let them go into a sort of brumation state. This will slow their metabolism and keep them from being active, and hungry. If you are nervous about the temps Google your pets native location and the temps they experience in winter to see if it’s truly too cold. For younger or more tropical reptiles things like handheld heat warmers taped to the side of the tank or adding towels for insulation are great!! And if your pet enjoys it, body heat also works!!
If you are used to power outages and have other tips, share them below!!
