I was fortunate enough to work with Asheville Wildside to import some Xenagama taylori from BION Terrarium Center a few years ago and I kept a pair to work with.

This girl had gotten enormous of the last few weeks, so I’ve been watching her closely and moistened a large section of her terrarium. She was digging yesterday in one of her tunnels and today showed up like a deflated balloon. Digging down about 5 inches revealed 6 perfect eggs tucked against the side of the enclosure. Mom is already eating crickets and some chopped greens.

I couldn’t be more excited, fingers crossed for successful hatching in 6-7 weeks!!

My original crocodile tegu female enjoying some pinkies after laying last night. 10 eggs, some of them bigger than I’ve seen from her. I also have 3 eggs from December due to hatch in the next 2 weeks.

One of her oldest babies that was born in 2021 that I held back is also gravid. She’s currently huge, probably 3-4 weeks away from laying.

Even more exiting is that 2 pairs I have sold have both produced eggs, and a male I donated to a zoo has successful fathered eggs that are close to hatching. 🙂 They are such a fun and intelligent species!

A tub full of Vietnamese or black-breasted leaf turtles, Geoemyda spengleri, having a soak. I have a beautiful group of 10 of these amazing animals, with these pictures being some of the smallest. Reclusive yet feisty eaters, the males have an almost white iris giving them an especially inquisitive look.

Endemic to Southeast Asia, they are considered endangered due to habitat loss. They also produce very small numbers of offspring with females laying 1 or 2 eggs a few times a year. These have always been a dream species since I first saw them in pictures 20+ years ago and I’m thrilled to finally have them.

Neither of these males was very happy with cleaning day. Visually stunning but extremely reclusive animals, I rarely can catch one of the females out, normally they disappear before you can get close.

Pseudocordylus subviridis, also known as the Drakensberg crag lizard. Males are crazy colorful, some females also have a decent amount of color but are overall more drab. Live bearers, I’ve had 3.3 of these about 10 months now but no babies yet.

I’ve had her in a laying tank for the past week and last night she finally dropped her eggs. 8 total although a couple look collapsed.

She never digs a nest vs laying wherever although this time she did cradle them with her tail and feet.

This makes clutch #8 for her over the past 3 years.

After seeing Raul Gonzalez post pictures of his croc tegus eating Mazuri crocodile chow, and talking to Munna Rangam about how he does the same, I picked up a bag to try out.

Glad I did! it was a huge hit with all 19 of mine 🙂.

I’m adding this to their rotation of insects and pinkies and fish….and it’s a win for when I’m out of town for the pet sitters to feed.

My adult male offering to give me a kiss if I come any closer. 😬

He’s actually really chill and has sired 20 perfect babies over the past 3 years. Such an amazing species.

As predicted, 10 eggs were laid by 9am this morning. A few don’t look good but the majority of them look great.

Mama ate 5 large pinkies soon after laying and promptly fell asleep in the water.

Her 7th clutch in the last 3 years.

What a female croc tegu looks like right before oviposition. Deflated with obvious eggs on each side. She’s currently in her lay tank, she began refusing food a week ago and at this point she’ll lay within a few days.

I have 15 babies across 4 separate clutches and more eggs in the incubator. I’ve traded a few and donated one to a zoo, but the rest are still with me including a close to RTB pair from the first clutch I hatched 22 months ago. I will probably keep them and try and introduce some diverse blood, but I have a dozen or so up for seeing new cities. Feel free to hit me up.

Super excited to find this baby last night. I got a group of 5 adults 6 years ago and had good success with breeding, one of the original males died so I paired up one of the original huge females with a F1 unrelated baby. After almost 2 years together with no babies I had kind of written her off as too old…but found this baby cruising their tank last night.

The colors on the babies is crazy gorgeous. There aren’t many that I know of in the US at this point. They are found in Northeast Madagascar on the coast surrounding Antongil Bay.

Antongil velvet gecko or Blaesodactylus antongilensis.

First time for me hatching this species, Ailuronyx seychellensis or Seychelles bronze gecko. They have the largest “glued” eggs I’ve seen on glass. (Glued meaning they lay their eggs on trees, etc and as the egg dries it adheres to the surface until hatching.). These eggs are hatching in-situ in the cage, luckily this baby was safe and sound, and apparently ignored by the parents.

What beast of an animal slashed me like a razor? What monster did this?

Just a tiny little Borneo earless monitor or Lanthanotus borneensis. 🤣🤣. I’ve been raising up a pair for about 4 months now I’ve been bitten twice…both times pre-shed….their skin is extra sensitive during that time. Google “borneo earless jessie maisano” for cat scan images of their skull and teeth.

Very reclusive, almost fully aquatic, they hide 99% of the time but are ferocious eating.

Warning: feeding videos of dead mice

While the young Crocodilurus primary eat various insects, I offer chopped pinkies once or twice a week as well. This video is one of the eight 2 month olds enjoying some pinky pieces.

The 2nd video is a 7 month old male baby eating a whole small pinky. Look at his pupils dilate and constrict as he’s eating it…

The older animals and adults will eat large pinkies or really small fuzzies too but I still vary their diet with super worms, Dubia, large crickets, worms, fish, etc.

(2nd video is in the comments because I can’t figure out how to get more than one video to attach🤣🤣)

Looks like one of my oldest female babies is going through her first ovulation. Picture of her and one of the same age male clutchmates.

She’s easily double his girth at this point. They are almost exactly 18 months old now and about the same size as my adults were when I got them.

The past 3 years have been such a wild ride with these rare and amazing animals. 6 clutches, over 25 babies hatched with 21 thriving babies.

I have a few extra males that are about a year old for 🛩

CBB crocodile tegus or Crocodilurus amazonicus.

Another new baby today, Halmahera geckos are one of the most underrated geckos out there. Often seen as cheap and sickly imports, captive animals are easy to keep, thrive, breed easily, and are long lived.
I’ve been working with them for over 15 years and a chunky new baby hatching is always amazing.

When I saw how much red the parents had, I picked up a pair of babies about 6 months ago.
No filter, just a flash picture.

I also have a pair of normal colored adults…IMO the most amazing looking non-venomous snake out there.

Thank you for an amazing pair of animals!

Crocodile tegu clutch #4 is hatching! You can see on the Tupperware the lay date of August 21st 2022 and my estimated hatch date of 1/18/2023, 150 days later. The first baby hatched yesterday….off by one day 🙂

There are 9 eggs in this clutch, 2 babies are currently out. If all the eggs hatch and survive, that will put me at 23 babies total. Probably time to ✈️ a few of them!

Crocodilurus amazonicus or crocodile tegu

After finding a pair of eggs a week ago, I went digging and found another pair of much larger eggs buried under some cork bark. I set them up in the incubator and late last night I saw a baby looking back at me…90% of the incubation was in-situ. Excitement is a mild term for my elation at seeing this baby!!

Neusticurus bicarinatus or the “two-faced” Neusticurus.

I believe this to be one of the only times they have been bred in captivity, but I would love to hear from everyone if there are others out there!
