Fall is officially here! ππ Whatβs on your petβs autumn bucket list?
Fur-tunately, responsible dog ownership isnβt ruff when you know the basics! Regular vet visits, proper training, and lots of love make all the difference! πΎπ
See how Oreo recovers from surgery? Very demure. Very cutesy βΊοΈ πΎ
In all seriousness, keeping your fur baby warm after surgery is a large part of their recovery. β€οΈβπ©Ή Patient temperatures often drop while under anesthesia, so we work hard to get them back up to normal before they go home with you.
How do we do that? All of our recovery cages are heated, and packed well with towels and blankets. We also use circulating air units that blow warm air directly into the cage, heated bags, and even wool socks! π§¦
Of course, all of this is closely monitored by our amazing assistants in addition to their other vital signs, IV fluids, and post op pain control.

Frizz and Denali were a tie for βmost fabulous patientβ yesterday ππββοΈ we just love the uniqueness of Silkie chickens!
These two were seen by Dr. Morrison for potential eye injuries, and were diagnosed with corneal ulcers. Ouch! However, with some antibiotic eye ointment on board, they should be feeling better in 7-10 days.
π‘Did you knowβ¦ they have five toes on each foot, whereas most chicken breeds only have four?

Do you ever notice greasy or oily fur on your pet? Flakey skin? This is a common skin condition known as "Seborrhea." Our resident derm lover, Dr. Lewis, put together some skintastic π tips and tricks to help you!
πΎ Fish oils can help moisturize from the inside out, and also help to maintain the skin barrier. They reduce itchiness and can have anti-inflammatory properties, not only helping the skin, but other areas of the body as well. We use the brand Nordic Naturals here at Atrium (pictured).
πΎ A dermatologist favorite, is the brand Douxo (also pictured). They make a product that is appropriately named, "Douxo Seb." This comes in both a mousse and a shampoo. Douxo Seb contains Ophytrium, a natural ingredient that not only hydrates the skin, but can support normal skin flora and soothe irritated skin.
πΎ When looking for bathing aids, try to incorporate oatmeal based products. Similar to the other products listed, oatmeal decreases inflammation and can rehydrate the skin.
BATHING TIP π It is normal to want to do as much as possible to help our pets, however, Dr. Lewis does not recommend bathing more than twice a week as that can lead to dry skin.
Wondering if these products are right for your pet? Send us a text at our main number or call us, and we can help guide you!
