Norma Jean update: she is doing great! She is off all pain meds now and her horn is healing well - there have been no signs of infection. Since she loves to play rough it’s still too soon for her to rejoin her friends. It’s hard for her but she’s getting lots of attention from staff and volunteers!

That pink stuff on her horns is an insect repellent called SWAT which is made specifically to keep bugs away from wounds and sensitive tissues.

In case you missed it, Norma Jean is recovering from an accident that happened one week ago. She completely lost her right horn, and there was some damage to the remains of her left horn which she had lost last winter. We don’t know how it happened, we just know that she’s recovering well!

To tell you the truth, while the Highlands do love grazing on the tender summer grass, their thick, shaggy coats make them very well suited to the winters here! ❄️

Pretty girl Alex! She was from a group of goats that was rescued from a dairy that shut down. Alex and the other goats from that case have an incurable virus called CAE. Most of Alex’s herd is still young, energetic, and healthy, but we monitor them closely for clinical signs such as weight loss or joint pain so that we can offer supportive care if/when it becomes necessary.

Our little Norma Jean is doing just fine since her accident. She’s sad to be apart from her best friends Pixie and Fluffy, but it’s not safe for her to rejoin the herd right now. Her wound is clean, no signs of infection, and she’s getting LOTS of love from staff and volunteers! ❤️
