In honor of National Black Cat Day today, here are some facts about black cats ...

1. Eyes 👀 of gold! While cat’s eyes come in a wide range of hues, the vast majority of black cats have yellow or golden eyes. This striking contrast adds an air of mystery to these precious creatures!

2. One in 2️⃣2️⃣! Twenty-two cat breeds can come with solid black coats, but the Bombay is the only cat breed that is exclusively black, from whiskers to toe beans.

3. Resistant to disease! Some studies show that black cats may have certain genetic mutations that make them less susceptible to some diseases.

4. Imposters dressed in black! Look at their solid black coats in the sunlight, and you may see faint stripes within the fur. Although black is genetically dominant as a fur color, the famous tabby pattern is the genetically dominant fur pattern, making these stripes “hidden” under the black coloring.

5. The yin to the yang of the cat world ☯️! Black cats are good-natured, known for being easy-going and calm. They are also very savvy, intelligent, and vigilant. They are as observant as they are faithful. In the cat world, they represent the quieter, more introspective side of feline nature.
