Good morning, everyone! Doodles! We love them. We love how sweet they look, their cute little noses, and most of all we love that fluff! They look like little clouds fell from the sky. All that fluff does require a lot of maintenance! Without proper brushing and regular grooming, those doodle coats can become matted which can quickly lead to bruising and sores. The picture below shows a dog with a severely matted coat. Unfortunately, when matting gets this bad, there are few options other than shaving. Groomers don't like having to shave down a dog but sometimes it's the humane thing to do. Dematting is a lengthy process that can take hours of brushing and combing, all of which pulls at the fur and can cause further pain and discomfort. Once matting has reached this point, it's best for the dog to remove the coat and start over. Proper brushing every other day and regular grooming appointments help prevent matting and keep those doodle coats looking great! We have included a video on how to properly brush out doodles.
