Take a look at this guy, Crouton! This guy is a fighter and survivor! Crouton came in through our emergency department for collapsing. Our ER department detected fluid around his heart, a very serious condition.

Crouton was then seen by our cardiology team and transferred to our surgery team. Dr. Gunstra performed a pericardectomy, or removal of the sac around his heart. Through biopsies, it was determined that Crouton had an infection of his heart.

Crouton was critical in the ICU and was cared for and stayed for over a week with lots of supportive care, maintenance of his chest tubes, nasal oxygen tubes, blood transfusions and lots of love.

CARE is thrilled to report that Crouton survived and is now home with his family!

Crouton is like many other pets who need emergency care and the expertise of multiple specialists to perform life-saving measures that CARE is happy to provide!

Bauer came to see Neurology for some pretty bad neck pain and did great after surgery with Dr. Wininger and the neurology team! We found out from his stubbornness that he likes to sit only in desk chairs. Turns out, at home and at daycare he spends his day in them! His entire discharge was spent keeping him from jumping on the exam room stool (not the bench)! Bauer is going to be very unpleasantly surprised when he realizes he cannot sit in desk chairs for the next four weeks! #carecharlotte #theadvancedmedicalcenterforpets #bostonterrier #vetmed #vettechlife
