Rico, our black roughneck monitor (Varanus rudicollis), very much enjoys chasing tasty dubia roaches (Blaberus dubia) around the shop! Getting her out of the enclosure and running her around is a good source of enrichment, great exercise, and is quite entertaining for our customers as well as our staff!

Check out how exciting our juvenile albino green tree iguana (Iguana iguana) gets to eat a delicious piece of juicy watermelon! As cute as they are as babies, iguanas don’t stay this size,and can grow to six feet or more, and require a very large enclosure to thrive. This species also can live up to twenty years or more, so it’s important to consider all of these factors before making the decision to take on the responsibility of caring for an iguana or any exotic animal.

Take a look at the adorable little DeKays brown snake that the Critter Crew discovered in the yard under a strategically placed piece of corrugated tin before leaving for work earlier this year! Although often mistaken for baby copperheads, DeKay’s are beneficial, nonvenomous colubrids that are great to have around your garden as they prey on slugs, snails, and a whole host of other invertebrates. As with all of the wild creatures that cross our path, this adorable little serpent was released, unharmed after a quick photoshoot.

Another turtle saved! 🐢💚
Check out the little musk turtle (Sternotherus odoratus) that the Critter Crew encountered on a herpetological hike around a swamp outside of Augusta this past weekend! This turtle is really lucky that we showed up because it had gotten itself stuck 18” deep in an uncovered conduit junction box, barely visible peaking out from under a pile of leaves and old wiring equipment. We returned it to the waters edge, bid it farewell, and continued on our hike.

Check out the beautiful yellow horns and Mohawk-like crest on this CB mountain horned dragon (Acanthosaura capra) that the Critter Crew has been keeping at our offsite facility! It’s really starting to show some amazing colors!
Mountain horned dragons are an unusual species of agamid lizard native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia that prey on a variety of insects and arthropods! Neither flighty nor defensive, these awesome lizards have a relaxed, friendly personality and only grow to 15”, making them incredibly underrated reptile pets. We have mountain horned dragons available at our shop, along with a ton of other awesome species, so stop in and see our amazing reptiles today!
