Pupdate: Adopted! Meet Perdita, our newest resident from our friends at the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center in Weaverville, NC!

In March, the ASPCA assisted in the rescue of approximately 120 mistreated dogs from a breeding operation in Florida. Some of the rescued dogs, like Perdita, demonstrated severe fear and undersocialization and required specialized treatment at the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center. After receiving critical care from their team, Perdita graduated from the program with flying colors and is now in our care. 😀

Despite her past, Perdita is as sweet as can be and warms up to people after just a few positive interactions. Once comfortable, she is playful and super affectionate! Perdita will need a patient and loving adopter who can continue to teach her all about how great life as a dog can be.

"Hi! We adopted Shaq (previously Edamame) back in December and I just wanted to send in a little pup-date! He has been the most amazing addition to our family. He loves his big brother Kobe so much and he has learned so much from him. Shaq is deaf, so from watching Kobe he has learned so much, and even some sign language! He knows sit, good boy, I love you, and no (haha) he loves rope toys and balls, tug of war with Kobe, running outside and chasing his brother. He is the snuggliest boy ever and loves to sleep right next to (or on top of) us in bed. We love him so much and are so glad he is a part of our family!"

In our Six Week Level One Class you’ll learn about:

🐶 Socialization: By being around other humans and dogs, your pup will understand how to react to its environment in a healthy way, without fear or aggression.
🐶 Manners: Your pup will learn basic commands like sit, stay, down, come, wait, leave it and touch.
🐶 Leash Training: Dogs will be introduced to collars/harnesses, and practice walking on a leash without pulling, lunging, or barking.

Starts: June 22nd // Saturdays 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Class Dates: June 22nd, June 29th, July 6th, July 13th, July 20th, and July 27th.

Meet Dutch, a two-year-old, 50lb mix of love and sweetness! Dutch's foster mom says, "He is sooo sweet, and so good with people. He loves to be pet and sit on laps. He encountered a neighbor’s dog from behind a fence and seemed friendly, wagging his tail and doing a play stance. He enjoys being outside and around people. He’s pretty good at walking."

"Bison is doing wonderful! We did change his name to Gibson or 'Gibbs.' He is having a great time playing with his new dog sister Barbara and his new human brother Dixon! We had lost our terrier recently that we had for 13 years and Gibbs has been such a delight to have in our household."

"Tatooine and Amethyst (now Biscuit) are doing great! They are settling in wonderfully.
Tatooine is coming along with house and crate training well. She LOVES Biscuit, and Biscuit seems to like her too, when she is calm!

Biscuit seems to need almost no transition time, she has been playful and cuddly from the moment she came in the door. We fully expected her to hide under the couch for a while, but she hasn't at all, even when Tatooine is being a little rambunctious.

We are so happy we could give them a home with us!"

Meet Caffrey! A six-year-old, 46lb gem.

This handsome pup is a true angel just waiting to bring joy to your home. Caffrey is a pro on the leash, making walks a delightful breeze. Reports suggest that he's already housebroken, and while he may need a bit of time to settle into his new environment, once he does, he's a great housemate!

"Griffin (now Charlie) is doing so well! He loves meeting EVERYBODY - people, dogs, cats, squirrels, cicadas.. you name it, his tail is already wagging to greet them. He loves wrestling with his big brother Toby (who's 90 lbs and graciously lets him win) and playing fetch in the backyard with the kids. Charlie is so smart and has already learned sit, down, paw, and leave it. He is doing well with potty training and we're so happy he's joined our family! We can't wait until he's old enough to sign up for group training and Canine Good Citizen classes with HSC."

"Ember (the cat formerly known as Uno) is doing so well! The day we brought her home, she fell right into the family rhythm. She sleeps with us at night (when she naps that is!) loves to play in the backyard and seems very happy.. Thank you for all the work you do to pair loving beings with their humans!"

Sweet and playful 14-year-old Lucky was surrendered to a partner shelter due to a number of treatable conditions, including a UTI and ear infection. Despite not feeling his best, Lucky was as sweet as they come. We quickly learned that Lucky knew commands, seemed to be house trained, and loved everyone around him. He became a staff favorite over the next month that he stayed with us. While it can be hard to pass a dog in their kennel day after day, wondering when their person will come, we have all learned to trust the process. We knew Lucky had a perfect match coming, and we would enjoy our time with him while we could. Lucky’s new parents adopted him on Thanksgiving Eve, meaning he had a loving new family to spend the holiday with. His new parents told us that Lucky is fitting in perfectly, and that he loves his five new doggy siblings. 🥹 Happy endings like this are because of people like you, who give us the opportunity to give dogs like Lucky a second chance.
