Millions of senior pet parents MISS the signs that your dog is dealing with chronic pain, but you don't have to and my free download can help you! ๐ฏ
Your dog has no way to tell you that it hurts, we know they can't talk to us. As a result, older dogs routinely experience unnoticed chronic pain in three places.
Becoming familiar with the top three places dogs experience chronic pain will help you pick up on it sooner and help them to have a better quality of life.

Repost of our Senior dog Q and A from last night ๐ค we share some secrets from our upcoming course! @drlisalippman
Indy is one of my Senior Labrador retriever patients who doesnโt really โknowโ he is a senior๐คฃ.
Labradors are one of the breeds that often act like puppies well into their old age! โ
This can be really confusing for pet parents because often they โlook and act fineโ but STILL have diseases of chronic pain like arthritis, dental disease and more.
The truth is that: Our naturally โhappy go luckyโ old dogs are WAY more adept at hiding pain and discomfort then many other breeds!โ
If youโre worried about missing signs of pain in your older dog, keep your eye out for our upcoming online course that provides a simple formula for providing the best care possible for your Senior dog. Itโs called Happy Senior Dog Formula, and we teach pet parents like you the secrets to giving your Senior dog a happy and healthy life.
The amazing @drlisalippman has teamed up with me on this course and there is nothing out there quite like this, that transform your understanding of your Senior dogs needs quite like this๐ค๐ถ๐
Coming out Summer 2021.
A blood test that detects cancer.... YES please! If you havenโt heard about the NuQ blood test, @drlisalippman and I discuss it in the last episode!
Also, weโll be posting a new episode coming out this weekend:) Big thanks to all our listeners! ๐ค
โSometimes we suffer so they donโt have too.โ

Senior Dog Feeding Tipโ
As our dogs age, they begin to lose muscle mass. And their ability to control their legs as they navigate slippery floors decreases EVEN more than before.
One thing I find helpful for them is feeding them on nonslip carpets or yoga mats. This is one of the spots we feed Becca and she is just so much more comfortable on here. Less slipping and less likelihood for injury or muscle strain which is important for dogs of all ages but especially our seniors!

Latest episode of the podcast is out. Weโve been really deep diving into this topic lately and to be honest, we didnโt realize just how much people need us to share these stories until recently.
In this episode I share a tradition that my fiancรฉ and I do after we love a beloved pet. It helps us process the grief better and Iโm hoping by sharing this it can help others that may be struggling with this right now.
My podcast Senior Dog Revolution is available on Apple, Stitcher and Spotify. Hope you love! ๐ค๐๐

Orthopedic dog beds... what are my options? ๐ค
This week on the blog I share 3 great options no matter what your needs are.
We have owned each of these dog beds and after seeing which our pack gravitates too time and time again... there is a clear favorite!
Head to the blog to find out why.

This beautiful senior kitty is Libby and one of our absolute favorite patients with an amazing mom. Did you know sometimes Libby eats watermelon for us at the clinic ๐๐ป!! When she comes, we like to make her fruit platters and see what she takes....
What fruits do your pets like?
Can blood work tell if my dog has cancer? In this weeks podcast episode, I discuss this really common question we get about routine bloodwork in older pets. Most pet parents of older dogs are worried about cancer coming on and we dive into what bloodwork can do and some extra steps you can take if worried about the โCโ word!
If your dog's breath smells bad.. it's time to set up an appointment and ask your vet about a dental cleaning. โ
This senior dog patient of mine has never had a dental done before (it had been recommended multiple times).
โ
He still would eat.
โ
He still would play.
โ
He still would get excited when his owner would come home.
โ
He was still in pain because of his mouth.
He just had no way to tell his mom.
A week before this video, my 12 year old patient who we'll call Larry started crying out at times when he ate and showed some reluctance to eat or snuggle like he used too. She was worried. She knew she kept putting his dental's off but thought it would be ok because he still jumped and danced and ate like all of her other dogs had...
She's so not alone in this assumption and she certainly is not the only one with a dog whose teeth look like this (I'd wager that most vets see teeth like this daily in their exam rooms!!!).
The truth is that we all make assumptions about our senior dogs and pets of any age for that matter. We assume because they are animals they have higher pain tolerance and can handle things better (yet studies have shown they have similar pain thresholds to humans). We assume that just because they are old that the slowing down we are seeing is natural and that nothing can be done. We assume because he is still playing and eating that these teeth do not hurt...
We are wrong.
These teeth hurt. I am so thankful that I was able to do a dental on Larry and help remove this pain from his life. I removed 24 rotten teeth from his mouth. We had to make sure his heart was ok for the procedure and his kidneys could handle it but after some diligent workup, he was cleared for surgery with me.
Now, he is back to jumping and playing and romping. His mom says that he springs around like a puppy now. Now that he is free of his chronic pain.
Anyone have a similar experience with their pet? There is no shame here friends, there is just

Stem cell therapy in dogs... ever wondered about it? Yah we did too!
This week we jump into episode 2 of 3 on mobility and stem cells with guest @juliereckdvm . In this episode, we discuss the basics of stem cell therapy, the process to harvest and store stem cells and who the ideal dog candidate is.
Stem cell therapy is not mainstream by any means but when looking for alternate therapies to help older dogs with their joints, we found it really interesting! Now after a year of having this modality for our patients at our clinic @vmcfortmill, weโre ready to talk about it!
NEW EPISODE OUT:
Did you know that 80% of Pets will face mobility issues as they age? In this episode Dr. Tarantino has the talented Dr. Julie Reck @juliereckdvm on to discuss some core principles of mobility that every pet parent should be aware of.
Following this episode, they will launch into their experience with a newer therapy to help mobility in our dogs: Stem Cell Therapy!
New episode is out on Apple, Google Play and Stitcher. This one is a fun one about a very special demographic within the senior dog group... the GERIATRICS! But to be honest, nearly all of these tips apply to any age dog. Let me know what you think!

Look, thereโs no such thing as a bad dog. I just donโt believe it. Just like each of us, each dog that walks into our clinic has very different needs when it comes to handling.
This is my buddy Axel. And heโs here to show you guys how good boys like him can have really calm and happy experiences with basket muzzles at the vet.
When a muzzle is needed, this is my favorite one. Itโs applied for a short time and he can pant, eat treats and feel comfortable all while we do our exam, get blood and clean ears (the last one he is not a fan of ๐).
Anyone out there have a dog that needs special handling? What works for them?
(Sound on)
Fridayโs at the clinic are still a lot of fun ๐ฉ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐๐ @vmcfortmill
