What’s one thing you’re glad you did on their last day? And if you’re struggling with end of life decisions, comment GUIDE and I’ll send you my free Quality of Life Reflection Guide.

1. Let them set the pace. If they’re sleepy, let them sleep. If they’re alert, sit beside them. Follow their lead.

2. Give them the food they love. This isn’t the day for rules. Let them have the chicken nuggets, ice cream etc. Whatever makes their tail wag.

3. Have water close. Set the bowl nearby or offer to them periodically so they don’t have to move far if they’re tired.

4. Stay on top of pain meds. Comfort is everything right now. If meds are difficult or stress them out, ask vet their thoughts on best support.
5. If they have a favorite spot and they’re up for it—go. But don’t force it. Staying home with you is just as perfect.
6. Help them move gently, if they need it. Keep in mind their needs with potty and going out and be thoughtful about when and how to do that depending on their struggles.
7. Say what you’ve been holding in.
Tell them you love them. Tell them thank you. Tell them it’s okay to go.
8. Keep the day simple. Focus on presence and low drama for them. Today is only about them, no one else.
9. Plan who will be there and honor who they are. Many dogs just want you and your loved one present, while others may like their whole crew.

10. Talk to them. Your voice is home (or the vibrations of your voice if they can’t hear).

11. Surround them with the things they know.
Their blanket. Your scent. Familiar sounds. Let them settle into what feels like home.

12. Let them rest where they feel safest.
Their bed, the couch, your lap. Where ever they feel comfortable and safe.

13. Don’t stress if it’s not perfect. Just you being there and advocating for them is enough❤️‍🩹

Most people think slowing down is just “old age.”

But research shows about 75% of senior dogs develop behavioral changes that can be early signs of cognitive decline —
and only around 12% of owners ever bring it up to their vet.

That means so many dogs are trying to tell us something… and we’re unintentionally missing it.

👇 Want to learn what slowing down really means comment SLOW and I’ll send you the waitlist link for my free microclass, How to Slow Down Your Dog’s Slowing Down. We’re going live June 29th at 8pm EST!
