Soulshine Organics is a small urban farm using organic practices to grow our fruits and vegetables. We are located in the Belmont Charlotte neighborhood (Plaza Midwood area), less than 2 miles outside of uptown Charlotte.

Beans galore! These are red swan bush beans. The blooms are a pretty pink and the beans are tasty 🦢

This year we made sure to succession plant these beans to keep them coming throughout the summer.

Figs!!

There are so many cool things about these trees. They grow well in our N.C. climate, they were one of the first plants cultivated by humans, they’re versatile (cookies, preserves, dried), and prolific!

We started planting milkweed years ago to help monarchs have a source of food. We’ll let the seed pods grow so they’ll reseed to provide food for next year’s monarchs.

If you’re a fellow Charlottean looking to grow milkweed, we have some for you! It’s good to note to stay away from planting the tropical type (yellow orange red). Plant the more native species of milkweed - butterflyweed (Asclepias tuberosa), aquatic milkweed, (Asclepias perennis) and swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata).

These coneflowers are a second core perennial in our garden. Like the Black-eyed Susans, these flowers easily reseed and we have many volunteers each year.

An added benefit is that the gold finches love the seeds and flock to the garden, so we get quite a gold finch show!

Black-eyed Susans have been one of the core perennials in our garden. They freely reseed and pop up all over the garden for a nice surprise every year!

Hydrangeas in bloom! 💙

Are you a hydrangea fan? Hydrangeas are some of those flowers that are adored and deplored. We tend to like the lacecaps better than the mopheads, but this color is just so pretty.

These look like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. They are “walking” onions and will form miniature onions at the top (bulblets) and then fall over and root in the soil 🧅

The gardenias are in bloom and make the whole yard smell oh, so sweet

Not just pretty but also functional! We put roses all around our chicken coop in hopes that it would deter some of the predators

Soulshine Organics was started by four friends and admitted gardening geeks in 2012. We use all-organic methods to grow our fruits and vegetables. We also raise pet chickens and bees (although we’re still working on naming all of our pet bees).

Soulshine Organics is located in the Belmont neighborhood (beside the Plaza Midwood neighborhood, less than 2 miles outside of uptown Charlotte)
