You guys! 🎆 We officially got our first grant check in the mail this week! 💌 It’s not much but it’s definitely something to celebrate after not being chosen for one of our other grant applications. 🐓 It’s important to set short term and long term goals as a farmstead, and it’s equally important to celebrate every step towards meeting one of them! We weren’t kidding when we said that our winter bouquets would last for the season! 💚 These greens have been keeping our table bright for over 3 weeks now. Remember our post about knowing the status of your flock? Our base line results are in and our flocks are Mycoplasma negative. There could be a lot to discuss here from a testing and infectious disease aspect, but if you are wanting to know what the status of your flock is just ask your vet to perform the testing! None of our girls are sick and if they do get sick we now have a higher suspicion that I potentially brought it home or they were exposed another way. Tell us your thoughts!

Know their status! I’ve been seeing a lot of sick birds lately and several of them have tested positive for Mycoplasma sp. Because of this I’m making sure to practice biosecurity with my flock, particularly on those days I see sick birds in clinic. I’m also taking an extra step and testing my flock to ensure their status. It’s also time to check a f***l! We are slipping into our winter era 💁
With the recent cold blast and one right around the corner our last succession of zinnias are practically done. We still have marigolds blooming and some natives blooming around the property we pull from, but for our regular customers like we will start changing it up a little. We think the bouquets are still stunning though! Also, shout out to our amazing colleague and friend for the very cute honey jars we get to start featuring!

Just because daylight savings time ended doesn’t mean beautiful bright blooms have to end. Many of our beds are still hard at work and we are too, making sure we keep that serotonin flowing! Did you follow that IG advice to chop your plants down already?
Neither did we! Ours are still producing here on the farmstead, and we follow what has worked for us and brings us joy! We ensure to use our One Health mind set applying it to keep our soils, plants and animals as happy and healthy as possible recycling, reusing and repurposing! As we take care of the property, the property takes care of us!

Our trees are still young and due to our location have to stay in pots, but look at this beautiful fruit. There is something about freshly picked citrus with the high juices and explosive taste! Absolutely love our clementines, lemons and limes. We can’t wait to expand our fruits trees!

With the line of strong storms that came through earlier, #thegoldengirls were looking rough with some funky hairdos! It did show their beautiful blue ears though. That is one of the APA requirements for the breed standard. We really only have one girl that meets APA show standards and that’s Blanche our blue silkie. Dorothy, our chocolate silkie hen isn’t a recognized color but is still beautiful; and Betty White is a splash that is pretty close to show quality but has some white in her toes.
