Cocoa takes her walks very seriously.
She doesn't care about stopping to smell the flowers. She'd make a great walking or running partner!

Hi babies🥹 You’re halfway there to a better life now!
Taboo had a great time meeting Santa this weekend! Rumor has it he asked for a forever home🎅🏼📝
Look at this face and tell me how someone could throw him out of a car and drive away. One of our volunteers witnessed the scene as it unfolded. The authorities were contacted but we have very little hope these criminals will be held accountable. In York County all dogs must legally complete a stray hold in the event that the owners come back to claim a dog, but thank god they didn't and he's now with one of our fosters and settling in.
Friends, meet Hargett. We're getting him checked out now and then he'll be available for adoption. To a good home. Nothing like the people who had him before🩶
Happy Friday from Figgy!!!

This 3 year old shepherd mix is stealing hearts this Christmas! He's a big boy who loves to run and play, understands boundaries, and most of all wants to make his humans happy. He'd make the perfect companion for building snowmen, walking at night to look at the lights, or snuggling up on the couch for Hallmark movies every night.

The next generation of dog animal rescuers. These incredible young ladies chose to support our rescue this year with their Girls on the Run of the Tri-County team at CPES in Rock Hill, SC. It's always so special to see our youth taking an interest in animal welfare.🩷🏃🏻♀️🐾

If you've been through our adoption process recently, you know how serious we are about finding the right home for the animals in our care.
We are an entirely volunteer run, foster-based rescue. There's little room for error. We don't take risks placing our animals with people who we aren't 100% certain are committed to them for their entire lives. It's also why so many people are involved in the decision making.
Ultimately applications are pre screened by two independent viewers. Someone then contacts vet references for the past seven years. Another person contacts two personal references. We conduct a virtual home tour, and then applicants go through an interview process where we go over any known behavioral concerns, explain in detail what to expect during the puppy velociraptor stage, and confirm what course of action would be taken in the event that an unknown behavioral issue were to arise in the future. We ask adopters to share their plans for a smooth transition into a multi-dog household, and only if all of those elements are favorable do we approve for a meet & greet. Even if approved, if the foster gets a bad feeling at the meet & greet, we fully support them if they choose to veto the adoption.
Yet despite all of those safeguards, we sometimes get it wrong. It cuts us so deeply and makes us question everything we did. We carry the blame individually and personally. We can't help it. It hurts.
And for whatever reason, after months and months without returns, we got hit incredibly hard in November.
If anything we aim to be transparent. Individually we'll share "reasons" as we post the dogs back in our care, but collectively it's not because any of them are bad or difficult dogs. We just chose wrongly.
Ginger, Cocoa, Quito, Cayenne, we are so sorry. We'll get it right this time. We promise.
Dear Santa,
I know I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm not in the shelter anymore and this very nice foster family has opened their warm home. Foster dad sneaks bites of food when he's cooking in the kitchen. Mama sometimes lets me cuddle with her in bed. My foster siblings have really made me feel welcomed. Maya and I have so much fun in the backyard playing, and Rowdy has been showing me the ropes. Of course I want a family to call my very own, but it's pretty good here. I'm okay waiting. I know they're out there.
Instead Santa, could you find a way to touch the hearts of families who haven't tried fostering before? The shelter I came from, we all lived in concrete pens outside. It's so cold out, and I know their feets must be freezing at night. If you could help them see the good they could make happen, and the lives they could change, that would be a good enough gift for me.
Love,
Butternut 💚
GIVING TUESDAY IS HERE!
Your donations go straight to our rescue operations and directly into animal care and preventative programs 100% of the time.
A little about us, we are 100% volunteer run with zero paid employees. We function as a team, partnering with other rescues all in the spirit of saving as many lives as we collectively can.
We rehabilitate, rescue, and prevent animal neglect and cruelty. We advocate, activate, and empower volunteers to make a difference.
We take care of the animals we transfer in from overcrowded shelters, provide medical care, and we allocate resources to helping pet owners stop unwanted litters from happening.
We do this with your support. The dollars you give, the wishlist items you send, and the supply drives you promote cover all the functional expenses of our rescue and we wouldn't be here with you.
Thank you for thinking of us on Giving Tuesday, and on all the days. Your support means so much.

Happy Thanksgiving from us to you!
We are so thankful for our community of fosters, volunteers, adopters, supporters, donators, etc! We couldn’t do this work without you all🧡🦃
You're halfway there, kid! it has been nearly 6 months of dedication to finally bring this big guy into rescue. Please help us welcome Axel! He has been a stray living in the woods evading capture until finally our dedicated volunteer, Tabitha was able to trap him. We are taking our time getting to know him and helping him adjust to living indoors but from his initial experience we are overjoyed and relieved to see just how grateful he seems to be to have found helpful, caring humans.
More to come, but for now, welcome to the rescue, Axel!

Update on Sir Walter from his foster!
“Okay so Sir Walter is available to star in a commercial for Purina whenever they’re ready. These photos are from three Sundays in a row—look at how his front legs and feet have gone from bowed and flat to straighter and stronger!! Good nutrition, good exercise = ooh la la what a glow up! 💛”
