Frenchies are NOT grown completely until TWO years old. After a year they are typically the overall size they’re going to be (tall and long) but especially males will still double in head size, chest and bone overall. Under two they are still in their adolescent bodies.
Some vets recommend spays and neuters much, much too young.

Remember no one is arguing the need for sterilization, it's the surgical technique that should be reevaluated. Hysterectomy and vasectomy achieve the same goal but leave important hormones intact according to science.

"The association between gonadectomy and timing of gonadectomy, and the risk of canine cranial cruciate ligament disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract
Objective - To determine if gonadectomy in dogs is associated with the risk of cranial cruciate ligament disease (CrCLD) and to quantify the magnitude of the association.

Study design - Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sample population - Comparative studies with gonadectomized and entire dogs, with CrCLD as an outcome measure.

Methods - A systematic search of the primary and gray literature was performed. The effect size of the outcome measure was defined as the OR and 95% CI. Subgroup analysis was performed with s*x, breed, and age at gonadectomy. A pooled OR (95% CI) was generated from meta-analysis of relevant studies. Certainty in the body of evidence was rated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.

Results - The literature search yielded 1398 results and 24 relevant studies were included for synthesis. Gonadectomized female (pooled OR = 2.293, 95% CI = 1.768–2.945) and male (pooled OR = 2.117, 95% CI = 1.665–2.691) dogs were both at increased odds of developing CrCLD in comparison with entire female and male dogs, respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that gonadectomy at 1 year or less was consistently associated with an increase in odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes. Overall certainty in the evidence was rated as moderate. All included studies were observational and no controlled trials were available.

Conclusion - In data with moderate certainty, gonadectomy is associated with increased odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes, particularly in dogs gonadectomized at 1 year of age or less.

Clinical significance - This study provides an estimate of the true effect size of gonadectomy on the odds of developing CrCLD, which may be useful for clinical decision making surrounding gonadectomy and the timing of gonadectomy."

🎄Merry Christmas to all our Frenchie families! I love seeing all the holiday photos of your family members (two and four legs). There are ups and downs with breeding (overall it’s pretty hard) and it always encourages & reminds me why we continue.

🌟 Quick reminder, don’t forget we are an experienced Frenchie resource that is always available to you- just a call or text away. We have many years of experiences (mostly good but there are a few challenges in there too) with these unique dogs specifically and are always here to help you with any concerns or questions. And, if I don’t know, I’ll do my best to find out! Vets are great to have when you need them but honestly they don’t always have the extensive knowledge or personal experience needed with this specific breed. The textbook approach to any breed is not always best! For example, I always try to educate about stenosis/nares (nostrils) with every single family because I know this is a very common, billable, “add-on” at the vets office that is unnecessary and definitely NOT a procedure recommended by us except in a very, very small degree of circumstances and certainly not to the volume of dogs this procedure is consistently recommended to (often with a spay or neuter). This is just one of many (in our opinion) erroneous approaches that can be taken with these dogs. BOAS surgery is often another frequently suggested but very rarely needed procedure.

Please reach out to me with ANY questions regarding the care, training, or health concerns that can arise regarding the OMF babies we brought into the world. We want you to enjoy your baby from us to the absolute fullest by making the healthiest of decisions and we expect that sometimes you’ll need a little help. We sincerely want to provide all the support and knowledge you need to help you make the most educated decisions about your Frenchie.

RESERVED!!!
Simply irresistible! Can you not just melt over how adorable Orwell in his pineapple jammies? He’s killing me! He was such a good sport about them overall but was pretty happy for me to take them off. 🤩 😂 He is just a totally mellow, squishy, snuggle puppy.

Orwell comes from fully health tested parents (not simply the cheap genetic ones that tell you nothing about health). This gives you peace of mind and can save you tons of money down the road. We have already potty trained him to a litter box which makes crate training later and house training an easy transition.

“Your our Frenchies don’t look like the majority of Frenchies we see! “

Yes, we know! 😊 IMO that’s a very good thing and a major compliment!!! We are very much aware that the Frenchies widely seen today are honestly just a total mess. It’s discouraging and disheartening to watch this breed be reduced to dogs so very far from the AKC “standard” for the breed. They don’t look right but maybe even more importantly is their temperaments aren’t correct and they come with an unknown Pandora’s box as far as health issues. It’s really sad. Rescues are full of these mixed breed Frenchies I can only guess for those very reasons. We don’t need a more expensive Frenchie. These mix breed mysteries are THE Frenchies that can and often give the breed a bad rap. Standard and preservation breeders are the new rare breeders. We knew it was coming but it got here a lot sooner than we thought it would.

Breeders involved in the breeding practices shown below need to be transparent with people about where their dogs are really coming from. Doodle breeders mix dogs too but the difference is they are forthcoming about it so people can research those breeds and evaluate if they are a good choice for them. When frenchies have hidden
Shar-Pei, Chihuahua, Aussie, Pekingese etc. in the recent background, and it isn’t disclosed, people can’t make those informed & educated decisions for themselves. Families need to be aware these aren’t Frenchies and it isn’t being done to better the breed.

Many have expressed concern over us mentioning we will not breeding for a while because they want a OMF in the future. No worries, we aren’t going anywhere. We happen to know it will be a while before we have puppies again simply because it takes 5 months once they come into season to be bred before babies actually go home. That’s the typical time frame. No girls are in season right now so we have no planned litters at this time. We also try not to produce babies that will need to go home early summer (people want to vacation). Once we have some girls ready to breed we will update our breeding plans. We have also retired a few girls and some will be adopted out over the next few months.

Reserved! 😊
Beautiful brindles from fully health tested parents (not just that genetic junk), raised with experience so these kids are well adjusted, confident, and purposefully desensitized to common sounds often realted to anxiety and stress later in life (sounds like babies crying, thunder, delivery trucks, and more), already potty trained to a litter pan so house training is a breeze. They are the perfect mix of sweet as sugar & sassy clowns= classic Frenchie temperament.

Two bowls, same food…😂 Apparently they prefer to be squishy. We all know that food tastes better with family!

I tried to moved some over and showed them all the both bowls. They cleaned the entire shared bowl and only then moved to the second one. 🤷‍♀️

These two girls are both reserved. Esmeralda & Jasmine are almost twins if it weren’t for the varying amount of brindling (gold flecks) in their coats. These are THE sweetest girls. Playful but not exuberant. Cuddlers but not overly clingy. They are both happy to sit right in your lap while you watch TV and take a nap. Ready for your snuggles next weekend!

Willow- 6 weeks (those ears are SO close 😂 to popping up)
I’d like to see Willow in a local Guardian home to be able to possibly use her in our program later. This allows someone to have what we consider one of the best puppies we breed for a fraction of the cost (not free). Our dogs are loved pets with their own permenant family from the beginning. Guardian home takes care of all the normal pets things but I will pay for all health testing and any/all cost associated with possibly breeding later (c-sections, vet visits during pregnancy if needed, etc.). She will come back to me to be bred and then stay here for 6 weeks if she has puppies. It isn’t a promise to breed her. If she isn’t bred by fours years old she can be spayed.

*** Families on our waiting list and those that already have a OMF puppy/dog are given first option for Guardian Home opportunities. We will give this a few more weeks to see how Willow develops.

If interested in this and you’re a current OMF family, send me a text and we can talk more about it.

If you don’t yet have a OMF but are interested in her please fill out a questionnaire from our website and send it to me.

We may end up pet placing her after all but for now this is the direction we are leaning.
