My big bad Pit bull getting his ass kicked by 2 Doodles and 2 mini Doodles at that!! 😂😂😂

*This is 100% healthy play.* Ralphie LOVES to be chased! And he is also as “bombproof” of a dog as one can be. So even when the Doodles are relentless and start climbing all over him - he is fine 🙂 Towards the end there it is obvious Ralphie is tired and needs a break so then I do start calling Sonny off him with some low level E collar taps.

The 3 dogs in training are just wrapping up Week 1. Here is what they have been up to for the first week:

1. Obedience commands: place (individual and progressing to group sessions), sit, down, stay & come.
2. Short sit-stays and down-stays at a park
3. Doorway Manners
4. Leash heeling
5. No (for unwanted behavior)
6. Recall practice on various trails
7. Trips to Pineville Park
8. Muzzle work with Bentley. While Bentley is great with me and all the dogs on property he struggles when passing random dogs in public. He can get super overstimulated very quickly and then he turns into a reactive “bucking bronco” so the muzzle is simply for ultimate safety. We have already made progress with him passing dogs too 👍
9. Plenty of play times

WARNING…. Images are GRAPHIC as they show dogs that have been severly abused with E collar training & held to ridiculously strict rules. 🤦‍♀️ E collar trainers are the worst!!! Those poor dogs… They must be miserable!!! 🤦‍♀️ 😂😂😂😂

The 3 new recruits have made significant progress with their leash heeling in low distracting environments. Video collage of all 3 dogs BEFORE training and then AFTER a few sessions yesterday and today. Before training all 3 dogs had a wild “let’s party!!” energy and mentality on leash- I was nothing but a weight at the end of the leash.

After a few sessions we see much CALMER dogs and no more pulling and dragging me down the sidewalk. Dogs need to learn there is a time and place for everything. Having a “Let’s Party!!” energy is fine for certain situations (playing with their dog buddies , playing fetch or tug with their owner, mtn bike run-alongs, etc) but leash walking…. It is not safe or enjoyable to walk with a dog that is having a wild party at their end of the leash. A nice CALM energy and mindset is best when leash walking…. It sets the human and dog up for successful walks.

Graduate dog, ZOE, staying with me for general boarding, gets her trips in too! Yesterday she got in a hike with new recruit Bentley & today she had a nice trip to a local park with me and my personal dogs and she of course participates in all the group play sessions as well.

I would say my perosnal dogs have a verbal only recall (“Come!”) reliability of 95%-98% around heavy distractions (including people, dogs, deer, coyotes, black bears, scents, etc) which is why I NEVER take them for off leash adventures without their E Collars on them… I want that extra 5%- 2% reliability and safety just in case a verbal command fails or something surprises us in close proximity with little warning. And my perosnal dogs have explored trails off leash SAFELY & RESPONSIBLY with me for well over 1,000 miles in various states: NC, SC, VA, CO, NM, UT, AZ, OK, ME & NH to name a few 🙂

If one thinks 95%-98% verbal only reliability is “good enough” to take their dog off leash in the real world without using proper E collar equipment and training (for that extra safety and reliability) then IMO they are being irresponsible... as they are taking unnecessary risks for their dogs and those around them. IMO, 95%-98% is NOT enough… which is EXACTLY why I am a HUGE proponent of remote E collars (especially for off leash activities): for the extra layer of safety and reliability during off leash adventures. 👍🥾🐕 🏔️

The dogs in training are just a little over 72 hours into training and they are doing stellar. Here is what they have been up to:

1. Obedience routines in the kennel: place, sit, down, stay and come

2. Practicing recall/“Come!” on hiking trails and at the USNWC during non-busy times.

3. Plenty of play & socializing

My personal dogs got some pool time today while clients’ dogs were taking their midday nap.

I am very thankful for my dog pool - especially because Sawyer’s elbow dysplasia has really flared up recently (The drug injection Librela has been a game-changing miracle drug for him for the last 22 months however it seems to no longer be working for him unfortunately) and swimming is a great low-impact activity. We are getting some new x-rays later this week to see how his elbow joint has changed & then make a game plan from there for him. For now- swimming is great for him 👍
