Great 2 day/1 night backcountry hiking & camping trip in Pisgah National Forest, NC: Balsam K**b, Tennent Mtn and Sam K**b. We took advantage of the cooler temps up at 6,000' and knocked out a 7+ mile hike and then found a great camping spot at the summit of Sam K**b. We didn't see a single other camper on the mountain- had it all to ourselves. Great trip. Great time. Love western NC!
Proper E Collar Training gives our dogs reliable off leash obedience (even when distractions like other hikers, dogs or wildlife appear), so we can allow them to enjoy fun and safe off leash adventures!
Sam K**b Camping. Look at this view!!!
Great session with , Bear, & his owners this morning…
Great hike at Stone Mtn with my knuckleheads this morning …
Great follow-up session with Lily and her owners this evening. Lily graduated a week ago and things have been going really well. The main reason Lily came into training was for her dog reactivity and overall anxiety when out and about in public. Today we went to a park to practice leash heeling around other dogs (her nemisis). We made a good 10-12 dog passes and had ZERO reactions from Lily! 🙌 Then we made the short drive to a local brewery and grabbed a drink while Lily practiced a down-stay. Lily and her owners rocked their session.

Living with and managing an untrained dog is hard.
Keeping up with a trained dog’s training is hard.
Choose your hard.
Great session with Duke & his owner this evening. 🙌

Recall Game: Owner v Trainer 😂
Get out and enjoy these cooler temps this week while you can! 😎
Boarding dogs got in a nice 40 min pack hike and my personal dogs got in a 30 min hike this morning.
Sawyer found 4 turtles on our 30 min hike today. He was on his game today 😂
2 turtle finds = Easy finds (5’ off the trail)
1 Turtle find = Easy/Moderate find (10’-15’ off the trail)
1 Turtle find = advanced find 😂 = a good 35’ off the trail and in some decently dense brush/woods!! For a dog that has never done 1 minute of nose work training he is getting good at finding turtles pretty far off the trail- lol. He may not be a Bloodhound tracking something for miles and miles but he still has fun finding his turtles 😂
And no, my “Easy Find, Moderate Find.. Advanced Find” or not technical nose work terms. 😂
Proper E Collar Training = fun, reliable and SAFE Off Leash Adventures 🥾🐕🐕

Great early morning pack hike. Good people. Good dogs. Good times.
The right training + right tools (E collar for ultimate reliability and safety) + Good Human Handling/Leadership = Fun, Reliable & Safe Off Leash Adventures 👍🥾🐕
Trail etiquette 👍 As the runner was coming our way we simply moved off the trail, called our dogs to us and put them in a “stay” until the runner passed. Good job owners and good job dogs 👍
School Yard Race time with 5 dogs. We have 3 competitors 💪 and 2 slackers in this race 😂
NOT your typical dog boarding experience 🙌
Graduate dogs staying with me for boarding had a great 40 min pack hike with me and my personal dogs this morning.

Great session with Lily & her owners this evening! We practiced recall/come work on the long line, went on a nice long walk while seeing several dogs (& 2 of them were “losing their minds” with barking) & Lily didn’t have a single reactive moment. 🙌 We practiced auto-sits and a public down-stay as well. Then we moved inside the home and practiced doorway manners & “place” in the home. Owners and Lily did great! Great start to a new & improved relationship between canine and her humans. 👍

Bath day for Lily! Lily goes home tonight and her owner cannot wait to see her pup and start having a lot more fun with her dog. Lily has some pretty strong anxiety issues and because of that, her and her owner have really struggled in being able to get out in the world and do fun things in a calm and confident manner. Lily has had a history of leash reactivity and also just kind of all over the place on the leash. Lily has done SO WELL with her training! She has had multiple walks through Freedom Park, the USNWC, Pineville Park, my neighborhood, and outdoor strip mall and is not only heeling beautifully but she is also NOT reacting towards dogs 🙌👍 She will probably never be a dog that is 100% happy-go-lucky in all situations- that is OK though. Now… with her training, skill sets learned, confidence improved (& continuing to improved) she and her owner will absolutely be getting out and having a lot more enjoyable adventures together. So excited for these two!
Great Going Home session for , Leo & his owners last night! We practiced on and off leash heeling, auto-sits, doorway manners, “place” in the home, “All 4 on the Floor”/ no jumping game, went over the E collar and discussed the owners’ “homework practice” with their dog.
Leo will actually be coming back to me later this week for a couple days of boarding and the owners and I already have our 2nd session lined up this coming Sunday to continue our training practice.

Bath day for , Leo! He was not thrilled 😂 Leo goes home to his owners tonight & his family is elated to get their dog back. It has been a great 2.5 weeks with Leo and he has absolutely progressed by leaps & bounds and… he is only 6.5 months old. 🙌 Looking forward to now working the family and transitioning the role of leadership over to them.
Pics are from the last couple of days of training. Leo has been absolutely rocking his training 💪👍🐕
Little clip of 6 month old , practicing his off leash obedience drills…
Great update & feedback from a client…
“Tired Tango. 5 miles run/hike today. Wanted to thank you again for the foundation to have an awesome dog. He’s so much fun to take along with us.”

All the goofballs having fun! ❤️This is so AWESOME to see Lily (the tan Pit bull-mix) having this much fun and being this comfortable and this loose. Lily has some pretty serious anxiety issues and those issues make it difficult for her to be comfortable and confident in many situations and a lot of her anxiety has come out in poor leash behavior (reactivity) over the years as well. Her owner wants her dog to be a lot more confident and a lot better behaved in public as well so she can go out and do lots of fun things with her dog and for those things to be enjoyable, non-stressful (for either one of them), calm and healthy. Not only is Lily starting to loosen up more with all the dogs (& still very slowly with me) but she has also made MASSIVE progress already in her leash behavior: she is heeling beautifully on leash now and we are already passing other dogs with ZERO reactivity. Less than 1 week in and this sweet girl is making massive progress! 👍💪🐕❤️
Rough Housing with our dogs: Innocent Fun or Slippery Slope? This is a video of a human wrestling with his dog and there is no doubt both human and dog are having a great time. This IS absolutely 100% play. There is not any aggressive behavior demonstrated whatsoever in this video. However... anytime we do anything with our dogs... we have to weigh risks v rewards. We often get clients that come to us and mention that their kids, adult family members or friends love to "rough house" with the dog. We simply feel "rough housing" with dogs is just not a good idea bc of the potential of the dog to learn that is OK to be rough (play bite, jump, chase, bark at, etc) with humans. Could an owner "rough house" with his/her dog and could the dog learn appropriate rules and boundaries when rough housing and learn to discriminate with who and when rough housing is appropriate? YES. Absolutely. The problem... that is a very slippery slope. In an activity like rough housing with a dog (one that is well balanced, friendly, good natured, etc), I don't really have any concern that the dog will become aggressive. That is not my concern. My concern is that the dog will simply learn inappropriate, obnoxious and unsafe behaviors when interacting with humans (ie: mouthiness/play biting, jumping, chasing, barking, and just being overall “rough” with humans). Example #1: 35 sec into the video you see the dog "play bite" the human's shoulder. That absolutely was a play bite; however, do we really want to teach our dogs to be mouthy with humans??? When dogs play with each other- they absolutely play bite, but that is with each other and IMO they shouldn't be "play biting" with humans. Example #2: 50 seconds into the video the young man starts barking at the dog and the dog starts barking back. Again.. this is 100% play vocalization. However... for me personally... other than "alert barking" (ie: someone at the front door)... barking is absolutely obnoxious and I definitely don
My two maniacs having their morning wrestle routine. This is their 3rd wrestling match of the morning and they will wrestle non-stop for 30-40 min at times even at 6 years old ❤️ 🐕My computer work this morning (emails, training contracts, etc) would’ve been done a long time ago if I didn’t stop evey so often to watch the entertainment 😂 * I personally do not mind dogs on furniture IF everything else is in place (ie dogs respecting their human leaders, they are not “pushing” boundaires, not making demands on their humans, etc). * Ralphie and Sawyer were not allowed on furniture for the first 1.5 years I had them. Furniture is a privilege and I have all my personal dogs EARN it. Same with free roam in the home- that was earned over a long period of time. Too much freedom/too much privilege for dogs without enough rules and boundaries = recipe for disaster for the canine - human relationship.
Little collage video from #doodle, Houndsie’s first two mtn bike run-along sessions. He is doing great and having a blast! He will be finishing up his Board and Train this Friday. Houndsie has come a long way in 2.5 weeks! He and his owners are going to have some awesome adventures together. Good training + Right Tools (E collar for ultimate safety & reliability) + Good Human Handling = a SAFE & FUN off leash lifestyle! #traildogs #bikingwithdogs #allegiantk9straining
