We always enjoy attending these horse shows. We just brought a small group since most of our kids showed the day before, but we had a great time!

Bit-N-Bridle Horse Show, 4-H Qualifier, June 7-8

All of our 4-H horses and riders successfully qualified for the State 4-H Championships for the second year. These girls have been putting in lots of hard work and are making great progress! 🍀🍀

Kemper Knoll Farm, May 17

While the show that was originally scheduled for this date was postponed, Darlene ever so kindly still allowed our girls to come school and board our horses overnight. We had perfect weather Friday night, and it was such a fun and educational experience for everyone. And to top it off, Darlene even taught us how to drive her cart ponies. So cool!!

I have soft spots (no pun intended) for Appaloosa’s. One my first horses as a kid was a little black and white speckled appy named Bubbles. It’s safe to say she wasn’t nearly as striking as Rosie here, but as an 8 year old girl, it didn’t matter.

Bubbles and I found adventure after adventure. In hindsight I think she tolerated my adventures.

I’d often imagine I was Zorro and hang from the barn rafters only to believe that if I whistled she’d come stand under my dangling legs as I sat down on her and she’d wisp me away. In reality it was quite the opposite. I’d sit on her, she’d walk under a rafter and I’d grab one while she kept on walking and never come back leaving me suspended till my arms gave out and I landed in her gift of fresh manure.

But aren’t those the memories that keep us falling in love with these animals? The gentle spirits that are willing to somehow put up with us.

Rosie did an amazing job, almost to the point where she’d fall asleep in pose. Life is exhausting when you’re pretty. 😂

This beautiful mare is Kate. She was a little weary at first of what my big camera and my assistants reflector might do to her, but after a little time and watching her horsey friends become super models she decided it wasn’t so bad and gave me some beautiful poses. Can you believe she’s 20???

September 7-10, 2023

A group of our most dedicated riders competed in the VA State 4-H Championship Horse Show. This was the first state show debut for our 4-Hers, and they all poured their heart and soul into every moment. They have all worked so hard all show season in preparation for this event, and it definitely paid off. None of this would have been possible without the most perfect school horses in the whole world, so many kind and supportive parents, Emily and Jessica who came to help for the weekend, and of course our sidekick Fenley.

Two fun adult-focused horse shows two weeks apart. Great opportunities to get Odie and Joey out for some more show experience. All of our horses and riders did so great at Four Oaks on June 24 - it’s always such a fun and positive atmosphere!

This hardworking group of girls all competed at the 4-H qualifiers this past weekend. They all passed their horsemanship skills, successfully qualified for the 4-H State Championships, and supported each other every step of the way. I couldn’t be more proud of them 🍀

A huge shoutout to Emily, Jessica, Sally, & Suzanne for helping us this weekend. And thank you Hailey for taking care of the ponies back home. I appreciate you all!
