So it was about this time in 2003 that I was stying the interior of Animal Connection - All Natural Store for Healthy Pets at our first location in McIntyre next to Cville Coffee. This is my grandparent's store in the booming metropolis of Arcola, NC (Warren County). Looks like retail was in my genes all along!
Sure wish this old store was there but when Konrad Zeller and I found Nuttall's Store in Ware Neck (Northern Neck VA) I felt right at home. It's a wonderful find for sure.

A national day off, but not for those who tirelessly help animals in need. Here's to Mary Birkholz, founder of Caring For Creatures in Palmyra, Va. Mary and her team have shared their home, rescue center and sanctuary with thousands of dogs and cat, providing them with medical needs, food, shelter, foster or adoption families or sanctuary care for over 35 years.
What we love about Mary Birkholz is she is true to her vision, she is highly intuitive when it comes to matching humans with the right pet for their family, she does "her dance" from the heart and she is truly a gift to our regional pet community.
We had the great honor today to visit Mary, see the new shelter being built by volunteers that will help a feral colony of 150 cats adjust to humans and ultimately find family homes.
Many thanks to Weruva pet foods, Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company, KONG, Saint Rocco's Treats, Bocce's Bakery, Annamaet Petfoods for helping us collect food for CFC.
