We aren't the only ones enjoying the warmer weather, so are fleas and ticks. 🤢
We're grateful to Dr. Sirk for giving us prevention tips to keep our four-legged community members safe.
🐾 Ever wondered what happens when your pet goes into our treatment area? Let me tell you, it's like stepping into Willy Wonka's Factory! Just ask Mr. Milo, he had a blast! From the moment they enter, they're greeted by friendly faces, showered with love and attention, and treats seem to appear like magic! It's a whole lotta fun in there, and your furry friend will be in great hands! 🐶🐱

We could be seeing some flurries tomorrow if predictions are correct. Here are some friendly tips to help your pet stay toasty, safe and happy tomorrow!
❄️ Keep your pets inside with you, if it is too cold for you; then it's too cold for them. Short haired dogs may need a jacket or sweater to go outside and stay warm.
❄️Salt and chemicals that help melt snow and ice can be abrasive on your pups toe-beans. We advise wiping them off after returning from outdoors. You can also use vaseline to help their paws from cracking.
❄️ It takes extra food and water to stay toasty warm, so don't be surprised if your pet is a bit more hungry than usual.
❄️Keep antifreeze away from your pets- it can have a sweet smell and taste that can attract animals. If you are worried that your pet may have gotten into antifreeze we recommend calling the ASPCA Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
The major news outlets have covered the respiratory illness that is affecting our canine friends and we thought it might be helpful to hear directly from your veterinarians.
There have currently been no confirmed cases in Virginia and Dr. Sirk is sharing some more information on what to be on the lookout for. As always, we recommend giving us a call if you have any concerns that your pupper may be experiencing the symptoms mentioned.
November 17th is National Take a Hike Day!
Usually we'd encourage you to explore Charlottesville's trails, mountains and parks. Unfortunately, our area is battling dry conditions and wildfires, like we witnessed last night on Afton Mountain. We encourage you to be aware of the air quality prior to participating in an outdoor activity.
And most of all, cross your fingers, toes and paws for some rain!
Dr. Garrett is sharing more about Canine Lymphoma: what breeds are predisposed and also our feline friends too!
Today is National "Check the Chip" Day and we're grateful for sweet Hobey's help.
Microchipping your pet is a stress-free way to ensure that in case you and your pet are seperated, they can find their way home. It's also a great time to check on your pet's microchip information and update any contact information that may have changed.
You can update your pet's information on the Home Again website.
Today is Pet Fire Safety Day! This is an important, educational holiday that is intended to help pet owners keep their pets safe from fire hazards, as well as, in case of an emergency.
Extinguish Open Flames – Pets are generally curious and will investigate cooking appliances, candles, or even a fire in your fireplace. Ensure your pet is not left unattended around an open flame and make sure to thoroughly extinguish any open flame before leaving your home.
Affix a Pet Alert Window Cling – Write down the number of pets inside your house and attach the static cling to a front window. This critical information saves rescuers time when locating your pets. You can obtain a free window cling by going to www.adt.com/pets or at AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days events. Details are available at www.akc.org.

Greetings Old Dominion Animal Hospital friends and family,
It is officially summer- it feels like mere moments ago we were ringing in 2023 on New Year’s Eve and now school is out, the days are longer and the weather is warmer. We wanted to kick off summer with some big news!
We mentioned in January that we would be adding to our Old Dominion Animal Hospital family and would like to welcome our TWO newest veterinarians officially, Dr. Adam Sirk and Dr. Sophie Vallely.
You may recognize Dr. Adam Sirk from the two weeks that he spent on rotations with us during winter rotations. He is from West Virginia and received his veterinary degree from Virginia Tech this spring. He will be joining us full-time at our Charlottesville office.
Dr. Sophie Vallely is also a recent veterinary school graduate from Washington State University. She spent her winter rotations with us and we are so excited to have her join us full-time at our Crozet location.
Additionally, we are so grateful for your nominations for Charlottesville’s Best Veterinarian. Voting for “Best of C-ville” kicks off today and we’d appreciate it if you would click on the link below to vote for Old Dominion Animal Hospital as Charlottesville’s Best Veterinarian.
