Originally from Long Island, Amanda moved to Virginia to be closer to nature and the mountains. With a deep love for animals and medicine, she’s thrilled to do what she loves every day as a veterinary technician.

❄️ How Cold is Too Cold for Your Dog? 🐾

While it varies by breed, these are some general cold-weather guidelines to keep your pup safe and comfortable. 🐢 Watch for these signs that your dog might be feeling the chill:

Shivering: They may shake or tremble.
Posture: Hunched over with a tucked tail.
Paws: Lifting paws off the ground or tucking them in.
Whining/Barking: Vocalizing more than usual.
Behavior: Anxious, uncomfortable, or unwilling to keep walking.
Ears: Their ears may feel noticeably cold.

Meet Dr. Alyssa Gerbus, one of our amazing veterinarians at Autumn Trails! 🍁🐾🩺

Dr. Gerbus graduated from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. She completed her clinical training at Kansas State University. She graduated from the University of Virginia for her undergraduate degree and is very excited to be returning to Charlottesville.

She has one island dog, Magnolia, and two cats, Bruce and Patty. In her free time, she is found reading, painting, or studying history!

Meet Dr. Jennifer Cardozaβ€”Co-Founder and Medical Director at Autumn Trails Veterinary Center! 🩺🐢🐈🐾

Dr. Cardoza has been practicing veterinary medicine for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in both general practice and emergency medicine. In 2015, she co-founded Autumn Trails Veterinary Center with Emily Gordon, LVT, combining her passion for urgent and critical care with a commitment to building personal connections with clients and patients. Before opening Autumn Trails, Dr. Cardoza spent more than a decade as an emergency medicine vet in Charlottesville and Virginia Beach, sharpening her skills in diagnosing and treating animals in distress. She also worked in general practice near where she grew up in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Cardoza completed her undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University and earned her DVM at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Cardoza lives in Charlottesville with her husband, son, two Cocker Spaniels, and an Akita. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time outdoors, including riding her two horses, Monopoly and Ezekiel.
