He's absolutely MAGNIFICENT (the first words that come to mind when people see Rudy). Stunning good looks, chiseled features, and a muscular frame.......and then you see him in action. And all of that melts away in the face of his incredible sweetness. No one is more adorable, kind of heart, or good natured. He is all about the love. He's so loveable in every way, you see, that you can't help but want to give him big bear hugs. He rocked his behavior too, getting stellar scores across the board! Housetrained, pulls a bit on leash, but takes treats so gently. Just a gentle giant with all. But he sure can play if he wants -- and be just as fun loving as the rest. He's great with other dogs -- polite, respectful, and a happy rollicking good friend to his fellow pups. So please don't wait another moment. You simply must scoop up this amazing boy now -- you will be the center of attention whereve ryou go, and he will be just fine with that -- everyone he meets is a new best friend! Foster or Adopt Rudy today. You won't be sorry. He's a TREASURE.
A VOLUNTEER WRITES: The name Rudy is generally equated with beings that are excited by change, adventure, and excitement. Well apparently Rudy wasn’t told that. Rudy is the opposite of his name he is mellow, low key and I’m not sure he even knows what excitement is!! I spent some time with Rudy and he is a very nice dog I would lovingly put him in the couch potato class. So if your looking for a handsome, low key, low rider hunk, your search is over!!! Rudy’s the dog for you !!! He is ready to fill that vacancy you have on your couch. Come to SIACC and meet Rudy.
INTAKE/OWNER SURRENDER NOTES: 11/15/15 14:06 Rudy is a 2yr old male Pit Bull that has a small growth in his butt area that they never got checked out by a vet. Besides that he has no past or current medical issues that they are aware of. Social Life & Personality: Rudy has never been around children or in the presence of a cat. So the owner isn’t sure how he would respond in the presence of either. Rudy has been in the presence of dogs and when engaging in play he interacts in a playful gentle manner. Rudy is an indoor only dog that is house broken. Rudy is described to be friendly, playful and affectionate with a high activity level. Behavior Issues: Rudy has never bitten a person or another animal according to the owner. Rudy has food guarding issues when it comes to food and treats like rawhide. Rudy has no issues recieving them but when you try to take them away he starts to growl almost as if were giving a warning according to the owner. He has never tried to bite due to the owner just leaving him alone when he is eating. When it comes to toys Rudy can recieve and have them taken away with no issues. Rudy takes well to grooming agents like recieving a bath, having his nails trimmed, and the brushing of his coat. For a New Family to Know: Rudy went for slow walks on a leash and this was done twice a day. He enjoys all sorts of dog toys and will play with just about anything. When in the home Rudy is the type to follow you around seeking attention or be in the same room. When left alone in the home Rudy is well behaved. Rudy was brought up eating dry food and the brand the owner gave was IAMS.
SAFER NOTES: 11/17/2015 Rudy came into our center as an owner surrender. It is reported that Rudy is gentle and playful with other dogs but has never been around children or cats so behaviors are unknown. Owner describes Rudy as housebroken, friendly, playful, and affectionate with a high activity level. Owner reports Rudy will growl if you attempt to take his food. Treats, or rawhide away, but has never tried to bite. Due to this owner just left Rudy alone while he was eating. Owner states Rudy did not have any issue when taking Toys away. During his initial medical exam, Rudy was friendly and very energetic, allowing all handling. He pulled on leash during his relief walk. Rudy jumped up hard on assessor during positioning for Look item, pulling out on all three attempts. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, tail wagging, whining. Rudy was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, focused on exiting. He gently pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail wagging. Rudy did not show any interest in Toy during SAFER assessment, although owner reports he is playful and will play with just about anything so this may just be based on shelter environment. Rudy approached helper dog a bit quickly, body not stiff, ears forward and tail above spine level. Due to his potential for possible possessiveness as reported by owner, the Behavior Team feels Rudy would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have very young children. Any older children should have an indepth interaction before considering adoption. Rudy may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and body awareness in regards to jumping up. He may also benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as kongs and nylabones to positively direct his reported high energy. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position, whining. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/ 2: 2. Dog gently pulls back, tail wag. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
