Hank testing out our July 4th Lick Paintings
The right body language and building trust through reward is a great way to start a dog who’s reactive. You can tell Reggie is quickly starting to trust his trainer ♥️ #imtrainedatfspl #dogtraining #firesidepets
Just a cute video on a rainy☔️☔️☔️ day. Look how amazing these Portuguese Water Dogs are being raised! So nice to watch early development being done right….. If anyone has seen Betty at the lodge this is what she looked like at 8 weeks old
When a dog begins any of our training programs, we start by teaching them about pressure, release and reward. Technically, release is a form of reward, so this can be simplified to pressure and release.
Every skill, basic to advanced, can be simplified down to pressure and release. The trainer’s experience and ability to read the dog make a huge difference in how effectively each dog progresses through this process.
This is also why we spend a great deal of time with you, the owner, when you pick your dog up from one of our programs. We want to teach you what the dog knows, their individual needs and how to communicate in a language they understand. This will set you up for success as a team when you head home!
Check out Betty on her first day of training, learning about pressure and release. 🐾
“Play and Train” is really kicking off!
This almost 4 month old puppy is learning to walk nicely at heel and stay focused on trainer. When working with young puppies you work the brain in short sessions. A mentally tired puppy is a happy puppy!!!
We have a few openings left this month for play and train. Puppies can be as young as 12 weeks old and no age limit for older dogs.
The best advice our groomers have for maintaining your dog’s coat at home is to brush regularly.
Line brushing is the best technique to use to ensure you’re brushing all the way to the skin. This allows circulation all the way through the skin and is the best way to eliminate mats. Here, we’re using a slicker brush. You can also use a metal comb for less nappy coat types.
A good line brushing a couple times a week will keep the skin and hair follicles strong and healthy and allow you to keep your pup in a cute, longer coat!
How often do you brush your dog at home?
