🐶 A huge thank you to Dr. Dawkins of Compassion Copper Canyon for helping us learn about our critters at our March Community Potluck!

The mission of Compassion Copper Canyon is to provide veterinary services (primarily spay/neuter) to the animals of the Copper Canyon Region, Chihuahua, Mexico, and regions of economic need in the USA.

Since starting the non-profit in 2018, Dr. Dawkins and her team have taken 4-6 trips per year to Mexico, and do anywhere from 200-500 surgeries per trip. The goal is to continue to return to the same towns to make a long term difference, as well as expand to additional towns to grow the impact.

Want to help make a difference for animals in Mexico? Donate directly to their mission at compassioncoppercanyon.org, shop for supplies for them on amazon, purchase swag, volunteer in Mexico or Chattanooga, sponsor an animal, and more.

Be sure and follow her to stay up to date on their incredible work!

Meet our Interim Executive Director, Lena Banks!

Dear Friends of Crabtree Farms,

It has been an honor to have worked with Crabtree Farms in one capacity or another for the past four and a half years....Moving to a new city in the middle of the pandemic and getting started in a new field showed me even more that organizations like Crabtree Farms are crucially important. I saw this as a space where folks can safely gather—a place where anyone is welcome to come and learn, no matter their background or previous experiences. I see this as a place of opportunity, grace, and healing.

Those who have been in the local food scene of Chattanooga have probably witnessed the procession of ideas, programs, projects, initiatives, partnerships, classes, and functions that have flowed through Crabtree Farms over the last 26 years. There are many times I have heard, ”what exactly does Crabtree Farms do?” As I think about the whole history of this place and of all the many stories that intersect here, I would say, “a lot."

Crabtree Farms is an important part of this city, and I know we have helped shape the local and regional food system of this area....Crabtree continues to open its gates wider as a place to gather, to share, and to learn. With each new person who comes here and interacts with us, Crabtree Farms continues to evolve. We are an urban farm and we sure do grow food, but we also exist to foster community connections and provide education in sustainable urban agriculture.

I hope that in my time here as the Interim Executive Director, I too will continue to evolve. I am assuming leadership during a time when the organization is working through a deep transformation in an attempt to root out and heal some of the issues that have stood in the way of it's effectiveness over the years.

I am grateful to all of the hands who have shaped this land, have been held by this land, and continue to support Crabtree Farms. I am grateful to be given the opportunity to grow, learn, and connect with all of you.

Lena Banks
Interim Executive Director, Crabtree Farms

Meet Matt: He’s a 3 year volunteer at the farm about to embark on a seasonal position working in our greenhouse. He’s also been an intern with us working on integrated pest management, and has volunteered both in our greenhouse and on the farm.

Why he keeps coming back to Crabtree Farms:
“Helping out a non-profit, my personal career goals, getting outside and being around like-minded people, wanting to create things…rather than tear down, and keeping my hands dirty and my heart clean.”

Dang, Matt…we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. We are so grateful for you + your loving heart.♥️

Our Story

We believe in a world where people are connected to one another, the land, and their own healthy body. Enlivening our community since 1998 through eating, education, and experience, Crabtree Farms is a nonprofit, community-focused sustainable farm and agriculture resource.

We pride ourselves on making our space available to all, therefore our gates are open year round, Monday-Saturday between 9am-3pm. During those times, we invite you and your loved ones to come visit and connect with one another through connecting with nature. Admission is free and we are always looking for new friends. You can roam the land and use the space as a park, see farming in action, or pack a simple picnic and enjoy the outdoors. After all, there’s always a place for you on the farm. You can participate by becoming a member and therefore supporting our mission and work; registering for a workshop or class; visiting and shopping during one of our 4 annual fundraising events; scheduling a tour or field trip; or lending a hand - we can always use more - in our fields, greenhouses, or kids programs. If you love our space and are looking to hold an event, meeting, reception, retreat, or party, consider renting the Evelyn Center. Your support makes our work possible.
