Leprechaun went in for a check-up yesterday. After a thorough inspection, he decided this place was acceptable and the vet probably knows what she’s talking about since she gave him lots of praise. 😉 He is 7.11 lbs and has been cleared for surgery to amputate his arm. PS: he was less impressed with the vet tech, but only because she was the one who had to treat his ear mites.

Last year I decided to take a couple of weeks off. I ended up taking eight months. I’m back now, with a new foster at a new organization with some old friends! I’d like to introduce you to Leprechaun. He is approximately one year old and came in as a stray with a badly dislocated shoulder and degloved lip. His arm will have to be amputated but he has to gain some weight first. He’s been a dream guest and an easy transition back into things.

The boys had a check-up today and are doing really well. They’ve been a little small for their age since I got them, but they recently had a growth spurt. Ringo is still a tad on the small side, so we are just waiting for him to catch up to his brothers before we schedule surgery.

Po & Tinky-Winky are at weight and will be having their spay/neuter surgeries tomorrow morning. Po is my outgoing boy who loves to play and is the best at snuggling. Tinky-Winky is a little more shy than her brother, but she’s the sweetest girl. It seems like they’ve been here so long! I’ll miss these two a lot.

George, John, Paul & Ringo…also known as The Beatles. They’re so difficult to photograph at this age, so I had to sneak up as they napped in the crate. These boys have been with me for about a week and are doing really well overall.

It’s hard to believe today is our last day together. She’s been with me since she was less than 24 hours old and now she’s ready to find her forever family. I’ll miss this sweet girl. I don’t typically take in babies this young, even if they have a mom, because they scare me. She’s been so easy to care for and it’s been my pleasure to love her.

Toast is officially at weight for surgery! I hesitated all weekend to confirm her appointment, but I finally did it. She goes in on Tuesday morning to be spayed and then she’ll be available for adoption.

Remember that time I was bragging about Toast being such a polite, tidy eater? Well, these two are NOT! 😂 This is pretty normal for kittens that are learning to eat. I clean them up with baby wipes but, after a couple of days, they get a bath!

Toast would like you to know she’s still the queen of the castle, regardless of how many babies show up. 😉 She’s seven weeks old now and is such a big girl. She adapted easily when Jam left. She’s fully litter-trained, does great eating on her own, and loves to sleep with me at night. Oh and she’s gorgeous!

PO & TINKY-WINKY

Po (solid black) & Tinky-Winky (tabby) have been with me for about a week. They are approximately five weeks old. Toast did not like them at first, but she quickly realized they’re fun to play and cuddle with.

This has been a long week! I never return an animal before surgery day and I’ve had to do it twice! Little Tux came to me on Thursday. He had just graduated to slurry and I worked so hard to get him to eat on his own. He did not want to give up his bottle and really struggled with eating, so he went to another foster who could devote more time to weaning him. Even though it was the best choice for him, it still feels like I failed somehow.

Today was check-up day! Baby Toast is doing so well and eating like a champ. She weighed in at a whopping 1.6 lbs at 6 weeks old.

Jam is ready for her spay and I decided to leave her at MAC. I feel guilty. I always do drop-off on the day of surgery but I couldn’t handle her being in heat. She had started digging her nails into the door and trim trying to pry it open. She was hardly sleeping and constantly chirping. It was time. I’m still sad.

I was not prepared for her to come into heat so quickly after birth. I was even less prepared for it to happen again less than two weeks later. I’ve never had a cat in heat. I don’t know if this is the norm or if she’s extra feisty, but it’s a LOT. She’s constantly chirping, sleeping very little, trying to claw her way outside on every door, even my closet door. Any tips on how I can ease her discomfort?

I have to brag on this tiny girl. She’s been the easiest kitten I’ve ever “taught” to eat. She took to it immediately. She doesn’t make any mess. I don’t even have to wipe her face when she finishes. Now if we can just master the litter box…

Jam has finally calmed down but let me tell ya…it’s been a long six days! I’ve never had a cat that was in heat and got really nervous when I googled to see how long it would last. One article said up to three weeks! 😳 Spay and neuter your pets!

Toast turned four weeks old on Thursday. Jam went into heat. I can only imagine how horrible it must be for her because she is driving us insane. If she could get outside, she would absolutely be pregnant again. That story you’ve heard about nursing cats not being able to get pregnant? Yeah, that’s a myth.

These girls went in for a check-up today! Mama Jam’s eye still looks bad, and there’s a chance she’ll lose it, but we are going to keep trying to heal it. Sweet Baby Toast is growing quickly and she’s now old enough to try slurry!
