Highway 58 Animal Hospital was established in 1977 by Dr. Lebron Brock.

In 2000, Dr. Brock hired Dr. Shane Whitaker, who became a partner in the hospital in 2005. The practice grew through the loyalty of pet owners in Chattanooga and the surrounding communities of Hixson, Harrison, and Ooltewah. In October 2014, Dr. Brock and Dr. Whitaker opened a new state-of-the-art facility.

Beatrix came in today to have her nails checked out. Although they may have gotten a little long, we were able to manage with just a nail trim today to get her back on her feet! Doing routine maintenance such as nail trims or ear cleanings can help keep your pets more comfortable and prevent more serious issues down the road.

While you can have too much of a good thing, a little treat today was a welcome reward! During Nelli’s visit today, we made sure to use lots of positive reinforcement to ensure good vet experiences from a young age. She especially loved the peanut butter. This is Fenris! He was recently neutered and came in for some discomfort after surgery. During his visit, we were able to diagnose him with a scrotal hematoma meaning there was by bleeding into the scrotal space that formed into a firm/painful blood clot. This is a common post-surgical event caused by too much activity or trauma after the procedure. There is a good prognosis with attention from a veterinarian, but can usually be avoided! If you have a pet that is highly energetic, please speak with us about medications to help keep him/her calm after surgery to avoid events like this.

It’s never too soon for a dental! Moose was very fond of his puppy teeth and did not want to let them go. Unfortunately, retained baby teeth can lead to overcrowding, misaligned teeth, increased build-up, and bad breath. With a little pep talk prior to his procedure, we were able to successfully extract the TWELVE remaining teeth.

We could bear-ly handle the cuteness during Coco’s visit today. As we welcome the warmer temperatures, it’s important to ensure that your pets are remaining consistent on their flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Maintaining a routine will keep your pet healthy and can prevent the necessity for more costly treatments down the line. Although other animals may be intimidated by a bear like this, bugs are not. While some pets are eager to have the attention from a visit with our staff, others require a bit more support to have a successful visit with us. Training at home can make your pet more comfortable with the exam process in addition to bringing in their favorite treats or comfort toys to their visits. We take our time to go at a pace most comfortable for your baby and discuss best practices for a more relaxed visit…even if that means holding their hand through it all.
