Hi all! I just wanted to write a little something about lost dogs and what I feel that we should always do when/if we encounter them!
so for starters, if you happen to find one in your backyard understand that most dogs aren't running away due to neglect, maybe they saw a rabbit or chipmunk and they just wanted to go get them (i know my long-haired dachshund loves her bunnies).
one of the absolute first things to keep in mind of course any dog has the capability to bite but again I would venture to say that they don't want to, so approach with optimistic caution. and bend down at the knees and get as small as possible and least intimidating for the pup.
if you are fortunate enough to get your hands on the dog and you feel comfortable enough leading the dog to your definition of the safety check for a collar and tags, however in some cases they might have wriggled through a fence and broke the collar.
now for the big things, In Florida according to state mandate F. S. A. § 823.151 every dog that enters a vet office or rescue center to be spayed, neutered, or delivered must have a chip for location purposes however in Tennessee, there is no state mandate for the practice. I personally think that at some point soon with the dog and cat population growing at such a great rate that will change.
so bring this animal to the vet or local rescue center and get ahold of the owner who would be ever so grateful for bringing their family member home!
this is to bring awareness to lost dogs and specifically, Ruby I sure do hope she was brought home safely
