One of our community TNRs (trap neuter return).

The first quarter of the year has passed, and we have trapped, neutered, vaccinated and returned 9️⃣0️⃣ community cats so far this year! 👏🏼 While we are proud of the work we have done, there are still so many cats left to help. Kittens are currently being born all over the city, and we are anxious to get back to trapping next Tuesday. 🐈🐈‍⬛

When we have donations available, we provide food for colony caretakers who need assistance for their managed colonies. We really need dry cat food specifically and would love your support if you are in a position to donate. We will post our wishlists below if you can give. ❤️

If you home a doggie, consider the cost of flea and heartworm prevention, spaying/neutering and shots. And consider homing one of these heartworm positive babies. We treated our heartworm positive dog after we took her home from the shelter.

Wishing you all a beautiful week and that you are able to start this week closer to the top of the list.

This is a lovely service to the community.

McKamey Animal Center is excited to invite the community to join them at their monthly vaccine and microchip clinic on Saturday, April 13th, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the MAC C.A.R.E.S. Center.

The MAC C.A.R.E.S. Center is located within the MetMin Impact Hub at 4001 Rossville Blvd. Chattanooga, TN 37407.

The clinic will offer free-of-charge services, including DHPP, FVRCP, Rabies vaccines, microchips, pet food, and basic pet supplies. This clinic is open to all dog and cat owners who reside in Hamilton County, Tennessee. There is no appointment required to attend the clinic, but all services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and services are guaranteed only for the first 100 pets.

In 2023, MAC sheltered more than 4,200 dogs and cats, with the overwhelming majority having no ID, microchip, or up-to-date vaccination status when they entered the shelter. MAC hopes that by hosting regular clinics such as these, more pets will receive preventative veterinary care as well as a permanent form of ID to assist in reuniting them with their owner in the event they are lost.

Services Provided Will Include:

- DHPP Vaccine - FREE
- FVRCP Vaccine - FREE
- Rabies Vaccine - FREE
- Microchip - FREE
- City License - $0 - $50
- Pet Food and Basic Supplies Available as Needed

This clinic is made possible thanks to the generous partnership between MAC and Banfield Foundation. 🧡

Has your pet had kittens or puppies recently? Did you adopt a kitten or puppy recently? Are there suddenly lots of kittens or puppies showing up around your house or neighborhood? Have you heard the phrase, "It is easier to fix a few than a whole slew."?

The unnecessary litters will only continue to get worse. They will continue showing up. They will continue to overpopulate our area and our shelters if we do not take action before they are old enough to reproduce. It is much easier to rehome the litters if they are already spayed/neutered.

On April 29th, we are hosting a KITTEN/PUPPY PALOOZA! This will be similar to our Catapalooza event where we spay/neuter 100 cats, but will be completely focused on kittens and puppies. We will schedule 25 female kittens, 25 female puppies, and a total of 50 male kittens and puppies. The minimum age and weight requirement for surgery is 2 months and 2 pounds. At the time of surgery, the kitten or puppy should not be over the age of 6 months and puppies should not exceed 35 pounds.

Non-refundable deposit expectations will remain the same. $20 per female cats, $30 per male dogs, $40 per female dogs. That deposit comes off of your surgery invoice total. Male kittens do not require an appointment, nor a deposit. If you prefer to schedule them, we absolutely can! If you do not want to schedule them, they can come on any day that we are open for surgery from 9:30-10:30. To schedule, call 706-671-1104, option 4. In your voicemail, please mention that you are wanting to schedule for the kitten and puppy palooza. Our events usually fill up within days of our posts, so please do not hesitate to call and schedule! If financial assistance is needed, please reach out to your local rescues before contacting us to schedule!

I love TNR services. I have been one of the people who took in feral cats. But we really can’t home all the unhomed kitties in the world. We CAN trap, neuter and release to eventually reduce the number of cats in the wild. ❤️

Some folks are uncomfortable with the RETURN part of T-N-R. Here's an explanation of why we do what we do to help others understand.

There are an estimated 50-80 million homeless cats in the United States alone. Kitten season has begun and millions more will be born this spring. 🌷😔

It's heartbreaking. 💔 But, here is the fact:
👉 There are not enough homes for all of the cats and kittens. 👈

Well-intentioned followers will ask, "Why don't you find that cat a home?". Because there is no space available. 😞 There are THOUSANDS of adoptable cats at all of our local shelters who could potentially die without a home. But people want us to keep pulling any and every cat from outdoors to find it a home. Current population numbers make this an impossible task. But there is hope through spay and neuter‼️

We are grateful our shelter accepts ✅ young kittens. They also do wonderful work for ✅ sick and injured community cats. We are blessed they provide space for those who need it most ❤️‍🩹 and we utilize this resource to the fullest! They have the largest foster program in the area, but even they have limits. Space is not unlimited. Fosters are not unlimited. Funds are not unlimited.

If you are an individual who comes across a homeless cat (or even a whole litter) and you are willing and able to take them in (socialize them, if needed), we encourage you and applaud you! We WANT you to do that, as long as you are able to get those kitties fixed. But if you are that person who was fortunate enough to be able to do that and CHOSE to do that, please don't pass judgment on those who are not able to do the same.

To us, a healthy fixed cat who is returning to a caretaker outdoors is not a failure. We are in rural Virginia 🌳, so when we return, it's not exactly "to the streets". We return to *caretakers* with farms, yards with sheds or porches, houses with trees, etc. They have a home in their familiar outdoor space. They have a caretaker to monitor for sickness and injuries and we are always there should those caretakers need us. ❤️

The RETURN part of T-N-R is necessary for combating the overpopulation problem. Right now, they can't all have an indoor home, but if more people understood the importance of spay and neuter, it could definitely be a goal for the future. 🎉

Hi, Friends. It’s Michele Steves & I have started pet sitting again. I took a little hiatus when I was working at Thrive Yoga and Wellness. Don’t worry, I’ll be teaching yoga soon again too. ❤️

I’m excited to get things started before many of my educator friends begin their much needed summer holidays. I will be pet sitting in your home. If you don’t know me as a pet sitter, I have references available upon request. I don’t typically also house sit, but it isn’t a firm no.

Looking forward to helping you fully enjoy your time away from home. 😻 Here are some past Sweethearts that I was lucky enough to watch.
