We house about 25-30 cats onsite between our 2 free-roaming cat rooms along with having adoptable cats at the Naughty Cat Cafe. Our friends at Wild Birds Unlimited in Hixson not only love birds and squirrels, they also love dogs and greeted Stevie with lots of love and treats when we went to check on our donation bank there. Thank you for supporting dogs and cats and for the warm welcome!

Rye had a lot of adventures yesterday. First, he got to appear on Local 3 Plus You where he was all talk and wagging tails! At first we thought he barking at himself on the monitor, but it was actually the camera man. As soon as taping was done and the leash was dropped, he went straight over to him to get some love! Rye also got to hang out with two of our volunteers at Petco where he got to greet customers and was very well mannered. He loves rides in the car so we are happy he had a great day and hope that his adventures may help find his person or family!

This sweet boy is named Rye, a loving 6 year old ready to meet you at the Pet Placement Center. Adoptions are at a special rate, this month!

Meet Franklin. He's ~5 years old, weighs 13 pounds, and is the first of the Murray County boys getting neutered tomorrow. In the beginning, Franklin was one of the shyest and most skittish dogs of the bunch, and did not wish to be touched or picked up by a human. However, he's slowly becoming more trustful of humans, especially when they lure him with treats. If you sit quietly near him for more than a couple minutes, he will usually approach for petting and even allow you to pick him up. Over time, he will continue to get more comfortable and begin showing us his true personality.

Because Franklin has spent all of his life in a hoarding situation, he is not potty trained, and may have been forced to lie in his own p*e and p**p in a crate. This is totally unnatural for most dogs, who want to do their business far away from where they sleep. Franklin has spent very little time, if any, outside until now so it is a new and fearful experience for him. He is starting to learn that he should potty outside, but it will take time and practice to solidify this behavior. He will allow us to put a harness on him, but still needs to learn to walk on a leash.

When you are lucky enough to get Franklin to settle into your lap, he really leans into cuddles, often closing his eyes to show how much he enjoys scratches on his head, neck, and ears--you can tell he's making up for lost snuggle time. At the shelter, he is nearly always touching one of his brothers; sometimes they even lie in a pile to be closer to each other. For this reason, he is likely to prefer a household with another dog, as the presence of other canines is a source of comfort for him.

Like his siblings, Franklin should be treated as a flight risk until he is fully settled into his new home. He is easily frightened by fast movements. He would do best in a calm, loving environment. Small children are likely to be stressful to him, but older calm kids would likely be ok.

Both Emerald & Kahlua came into our care when they were just itty bitty babies. They grew up in foster care and continued to grow up right before our eyes at the shelter. They are not related, but as other kittens came and went, these two bonded over time because they are so close in age. They played together constantly and we were always surprised that adopters did not choose the young social frisky ones in the room. So we sent them to Naughty Cat Cafe and they were perfectly matched after only one day. We are all so happy they get to bring joy to a family with kids as they are just kids themselves!

The road to adoption is longer for some than it is for others. For Petey, that road was 542 days long. Petey was born at another shelter and arrived at PPC when he was only 6 days old, so shelter life is truly all he has ever known. He was the last one left out of Farina's litter of 8 puppies. Petey went to his home right at the beginning of the new year as a "foster" and he fit in so perfectly that they decided to finalize his adoption last weekend. We LOVE that they have been sending us pictures and updates as that is what keeps the rescue community going💙Have a happy life Petey!

Olive and four males dogs were rescued from a filthy hoarding situation in Murray County Georgia where there were more than 70 dogs living in a trailer. A delivery man witnessed 13 deceased dogs in the yard and fortunately reported the situation to authorities.

Olive looks to be a Chihuahua and Rat Terrier mix. The vet estimates her at 3 years old and she weighs 12 pounds.

Upon arriving at PPC the 5 dogs were extremely nervous and smelled horrible. All five were given baths and love. Olive was taken into foster on the first day. She was frozen in her surroundings for the first 24 hours and afraid to move. On the second day she began to settle in and move around a bit. New progress everyday. Olive will continue to get more comfortable over time and her personality will begin to show.

Olive was taken to the vet for fear she was pregnant but fortunately she was not and just had a belly full of p**p. Surviving in a hoarding situation forced Olive to learn to p*e and p**p in a crate, AND LIVE IN IT, which is totally unnatural for most dogs. They want to do their business far away from where they sleep. It seems Olive has spent very little time, if any, outside until now so it is a new and fearful experience for her.

In foster care Olive is learning to use p*e pads. With time and patience, Olive will feel comfortable doing her business outside. She is very smart and a pleaser. When praised for using the p*e pads she gets visibly happy and celebratory!

Olive is very affectionate and is what some might refer to as a velcro dog. She sleeps in the bed with other dogs and her foster. She sits on the couch in a pile with other dogs and her foster. She constantly nudges for more petting and flops on her side for belly rubs.

Olive is healthy and agile. She can easily jump on a chair or bed. She is ok in a crate but will whine a little. She doesn't try to get out but wants to be held, talked to, and loved. Olive probably went without affection for a long time and wants to catch up on what she missed.

Olive is good with a harness and leash. Even though she seems calm and happy in foster care Olive should be treated as a flight risk. She is easily frightened by fast movements.

Olive will thrive in a calm, loving, safe environment. She would be thrilled to sit in someone's lap all day. She has not been around children but older calm kids would likely be ok. She is fine with equally calm dogs.

Olive is an angel especially considering the circumstances she endured and survived. She deserves the best possible forever home. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in meeting her!

A little over a year ago, after a rather bumpy start to life, our sweet boy Picasso found his forever home. Here’s the pupdate from his loving pawrents:

“Picasso is the sweetest dog—seriously, he just makes your heart clench daily—and loves nothing more than to be surrounded by his little brothers all day. You end up wanting to get more dogs just because he loves them so much. I remember Heather Meadows Woods being so excited he might be adopted and have some friends - she was right, he needs buddies to be happy. Our lives would be darker without him in it. We are grateful Ali Dudek and a prescription mix-up brought him into our lives. 💓”

Happy Sunday everyone—hope this post brings some sunshine into your next week!
